Completely agree. Cutting wires = bad news.
Most tunes will get rid of CEL and even give you some HP/Torque. If you're spending $100 for that might as well spend a little more for a tune
Thing is it won't be in readiness mode, it just keeps clearing the check engine light. This will actually get into readiness mode and you can pass an obd2 test.
