Bearing failure can be potentially dangerous depending when and how it happens. A car's bearings that seize while idling in a parking lot is not bad but having one's bearings go while driving on a highway might be very dangerous to the driver and other people on the road.
I certainly hope no one has to die because of this issue before we can prove to BMW to help us.
