We'll be around. We don't make it too huge of a deal or anything. We just try to set it on a weekend when everyone is free and the weather is nice, go for a drive, grab some lunch, take a few pics.
The key is to avoid all the touristy roads (which is what tail of the dragon is), because there will be too much traffic and cops everywhere. There are so many backroads and short sections that I really enjoy up by 276N and Blue Ridge Parkway.
Oh and the view is not bad either:
