Because I want to run the same size tires on the street and track. That way if I damage a wheel or tire I always have a spare. I also have the option of driving to the track with two spare wheels (instead of stuffing a second set of wheels in the car).
Not to mention why not add inner clearance if it doesn't negatively impact anything? Wouldn't you rather avoid spacers?
