I agree that the spring removal helped a lot, and to help even more I just installed the BMS clutch stopper. I figured for $10, why not try it out? It basically makes it so that when you fully depress the clutch pedal, it sits right after the engagement point. It helped make the 1-2 shift much smoother and was literally under a minute to install.
