As a college professor, I understand I get more frustrated with my kids' high school than most parents. I've had 4 kids go through this school district, which is "exemplary-rated" - not saying much in TX.

I've had a daughter physically assaulted & was caught on camera yet the boy (much wealthier family than I) received no repercussions.

I've gone back & forth with the Principal because the students don't receive their graded work back, can't see what they missed on exams, teachers don't input grades until the end of the quarter, etc. "They may share their homework or tests with their friends & cheat".

Still three of my children have gone on to college, received very large scholarships, and are doing well in life.

My youngest is a senior this year, and already there are issues. He was supposed to take an honors anatomy & physiology course junior year but his counselor forgot to put it on his schedule. By the time they send out schedules - 1 week before school starts - he realized he didn't have the class. They said it was too late to add it.

He was also supposed to take 2 dual-credit college courses that the counselor "forgot" to enroll him in. The college instructor said he could still add, but his HS said it was past the deadline :mad0260:

Last Spring arrives & he meets with his counselor to select his senior classes & makes sure to have the A&P class on his schedule. Well guess what, received his schedule last week & no A&P class.

He fills out the required google form for schedule changes immediately & also emails now his new counselor - no response. School sent out new schedules the morning of the 1st of school with any changes - still no A&P course.

He went to see his counselor in-person & got turned away, "they aren't taking appointments". Filled out another schedule change request form - no response. I emailed the counselor - no response. He emailed the teacher of the A&P class, no response.

I have over 300 students in my classes each semester & respond to student emails within 24 hours (most times much sooner than that). That's on top of my department meetings, teaching classes all day, labs, working with my TAs, grading, etc.

I try not to be "that parent" but this crap frustrates the hell out of me. I know they are not that busy that they can't respond to students, especially when it impacts their next steps.

My son is applying to very competitive colleges & the A&P class is important for his intended major.

I will be ecstatic when I no longer have to deal with this school.

Background:
I live in a neighborhood with an HOA. It's an affluent neighborhood with all homes probably in the 3,000 - 4,000 sq ft range and most with 3-car garages.

Part of the CC&Rs is no street parking - which I am a fan of. It's rarely enforced unless people complain, and our neighborhood also backs up to a middle school (my house & street specifically).

When I bought this house people used to pull into my driveway to drop their kids off or pick them up. Or park in my driveway to cut through my yard to the sports fields - not kidding. I moved my fences up & installed a driveway gate & got nasty notes left on my door for blocking access to the school for like 6 months.

Last year, due to a push by our neighborhood, to stop all the parents from lining our streets & blocking the entrances to neighborhood when dropping off & picking up their kids, the Town installed no parking signs along all our streets with specific times - goes for home owners too.

Yesterday was the first day of school and of course a thousand cars filled our neighborhood. Police drove through and gave warnings. Today they started writing tickets.

A neighbor whose house is across from mine always parks his X3 on the street & walks across his yard to his door. I don't get it, he's got a large garage & driveway.
:confused2

Today a ticket was placed on his X3 along with 5 other vehicles parked on my street & I'm sure vehicles parked on the other streets.

Here's where it gets funny. About an hour after the X3 was ticketed, he comes pulling out of his driveway in his Tesla & sees the ticket. As he stops his Tesla in the middle of the street, the Cop happens to pull around the corner. He stops the Cop and proceeds to argue with him for about 15 min. Lots of shouting, arms swinging around, pointing down the street, etc.

Cop drives off & the neighbor swings around and parks his Tesla on the street behind the X3, stomps across his yard, pulls his Escalade ESV out of the garage and parks it on the street behind the Tesla, and proceeds to wave his arms at the cop driving away.

I mean if that doesn't show em, I don't what will. He's left all 3 parked on the street since the ticket, so we'll see if he ends up moving them or getting more tickets. :bellyroll

TX is the only state I've lived in (6 different states) where people park in the street & not their driveways or garages. I honestly don't understand it, and nobody has ever given a good explanation as to why.

Anyway, that entertainment today provided a nice break from working on my computer all day.

My story of getting scammed and ripped off.

First it was very suspicious that they offered exactly same product for different generations of engines for BMW. But BMW uses different turbos functionality not to mention size across different engine iterations. Mainly N63 and N63TU, N63TU2 etc difference. Later I discovered that blanket fit will be different and not snug at all. These guys are very incompetent technically. Seems like they don't even know these differences exist.

Then I decided to ask them if they can declare at a lower price for me. Because paying almost double the price on top of already high amount wasn't in my plan for marginal gains. Ryan - their support and also a director said: "Yes it's possible only if you'll choose FedEx or DHL shipping method". I was happy that they do that and went ahead to order.

The difference between FedEx / DHL and budget shipping cost is roughly 45€. I wasn't in a rush to get my blanket but I had to choose the expensive option to be able to declare lower. I then searched online and found a -10% coupon I applied during checkout. I also added a note to my order reminding them to declare low at a mentioned value with clear instructions. I also sent them an email to order@ and info@ email addresses reminding about the declaration favour and asking to confirm the value.

Next day got a notification email from them that my order is on the way. But no reply over the email. I decided reach over using online chat. Ryan quickly responded saying not to worry and that they declared lower than the actual amount but he couldn't confirm the exact declared amount.

The very next day I received a notification from FedEx that I need to declare my order. There was also a Commercial Invoice attached with the declared amount. Aand... WTF!? It's actually declared HIGHER then what I even paid initially. No.. seriously. I was so mad... I have a long history of purchasing from all over the world for 17 or so years, but this is THE First time I got screwed that badly.

The actual amount I paid including shipping was 411,60€ but these idiots wrote 472,17£ in the declaration. I checked for added services and found nothing. The purchase invoice and commercial invoice both have exactly same lines but amount is clearly different.

I then reached Ryan over the chat explaining the problem but he completely ignored me for hours. Then I reached them from a different device using a different name and he answered within seconds.

I later found a few reviews mentioning bad fit, damaged product upon arrival, their refusal of support and lies. What do you expect from a 2 person company? They just source the materials from China, most likely make their stuff there as well and sell it for several time more at home. Well done, idiots. Don't give these liers a chance unless you want to deal with all that BS.

BTW. I have screenshots of Ryan chat support saying he will declare low, of him confirming low declaration. And then ignoring my messages. If you live outside of UK then prepare to pay almost double of what price you actually see during checkout. Import tax / VAT tax, service fees, duty and commodity tax. Also you will have to find a suitable broker and use their services for an additional hefty amount of money (90€ in my case), because only brokers can declare high value parcels by local laws. You can also refuse to accept the parcel but shipping fee (both back and forth) and a restocking fee of 10% of total cost will be deducted from you initial purchase amount.

That's how Funk Motorsport make their money. With lies and false promises. You would expect top quality service for that price but you won't find it here. This is the first time I've been screwed like this in 17 years. Even Chinese shady sellers are more transparent and trustworthy than this 2 clowns company.

After some time:
So things gone wrong even more. These blankets didn't fit my N63TU stock turbos. You suppose to cut or completely remove the original heat shield. Wow thanks for telling me this after I received my order, Funk. They swear that this blanket is more efficient at blocking the heat from turbos than this OEM part. Well this might be true but... There's also heat coming from the downpipes. This heat shield is the only parts that blocks it. Otherwise even hotter than before air is coming through, frying hoses and plastic parts under the hood. Plus these blankets block the turbo blow off valves because they are so thick and space is so tight. The car shop mechanic said it would be an expensive and a very bad idea to actually fit these.

So I decided to return these with the original packaging, booklet, sticker. Blankets were returned in pristine condition. These scammers deducted 80% and refunded me 97,62€ out of 411.60€ I paid. Photos attached as proof and packed units are filmed when I was packing them for a return. They were not dirty inside and outside, no oil or gasoline on them.

STAY AWAY from these scammers and liers !!!

Ben Jones, ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ star and former Congressman, dies at 84

By Charlotte Reck

Actor Ben Jones, best known for playing trusty mechanic Cooter Davenport in the hit TV comedy “The Dukes of Hazzard,” has died at age 84.

Jones’ death was confirmed by his wife of more than three decades, Alma Viator, who shared the news in a post on Facebook.

“I lost the love of my life today,” Viator wrote in a tribute, alongside a recent picture of a smiling Jones, sitting with a dog on his lap.

“Ben passed from a massive heart attack,” she added.

The actor suffered the fatal cardiac arrest at home on Sunday while waiting to watch his favorite baseball team the Atlanta Braves “whoop the Yankees,” Viator explained.

“Ben had the most amazing rich full life. He loved and was loved by so many. He will be missed. I loved him so so much,” she said.

Jones rose to fame when he was cast as Cooter Davenport, the sidekick to cousins Bo and Luke Duke, in the action comedy “The Dukes of Hazzard,” which aired on CBS between 1979 and 1985.

Davenport was a mischievous rogue, and fans loved the character — often called an “honorary Duke” — for his wild, rebellious ways and his aversion to the law.

Packed with adventure and car chases, “The Dukes of Hazzard” had great success during its seven-season run. The first three seasons ranked in the top 10 most viewed television shows in the US, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Jones appeared in all seven seasons and returned for 1997’s TV movie “The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion!” and again in 2000 for “The Dukes of Hazzard: Hazzard in Hollywood.”

His friendships with cast members stood the test of time, as proven last year when Jones reflected on the death of Rick Hurst, who played Deputy Cletus Hogg in the show.

“It doesn’t seem right that Rick Hurst passed away,” Jones wrote in a message posted on the Facebook page of the Cooter’s Place museum, which is dedicated to the show.

“I have known Rick for over 45 years and there wasn’t a minute of that time that he didn’t leave me smiling or laughing … he just had a heart as big as Texas,” he added.

When news of Jones’ death broke, his co-star Tom Wopat, who played Luke Duke in the show, shared an image on Instagram of himself arm-in-arm with Jones on stage.

“The Dukes of Hazzard lost another integral part of their cast today,” Wopat wrote in a caption. “Ben Jones was a fine friend and a fierce advocate of all the best things we can offer in the entertainment business. He will be sorely missed.”

After “The Dukes of Hazzard” wrapped, Jones made a shift into politics.

He was elected to the United States Congress in 1988 and was in office as a Democratic member of the US House of Representatives from Georgia’s 4th district between January 1989 and January 1993.

During his stint in office, Jones served as a Democratic whip, was a member of the Committee on Veteran’s Affairs and a member of the Committee on Public Works and Transportation.

First and foremost: Giving a ginormous thank you to the man upstairs from whom all Blessings flow! 🙏🏽 As I officially hit my Golden Years recently, I put things into a entirely different perspective. Focusing in on my Faith, Family and Fundamentals: Health, Peace, Joy and Future. I am so grateful for my Family and dear Friends.
I had to share this Ai image a friend of ours created from the picture she took. It captured the moment from our party at our home. I wore a 70s inspired ensemble: Bell Bottoms and 5in Platform Shoes. We jammed to Disco and 80s all night!
It was truly GROOVY Baby! 😁

I am planning a trip from LA to Sequoia and Death valley or Yosmite. I am confused between a convertible mustang or Jeep Wranglar or a Sedan (like BMW 530 or Audi A5 sportsback) which car should I rent for a good drive experience.

"A Stammtisch is a German term meaning a "regulars' table"—both the physical table reserved for a regular group and the informal, recurring get-together itself.

The Table: A designated spot in a pub, bar, or restaurant saved for loyal local customers or a specific club.

The Gathering: A casual, unprogrammed meeting where friends or like-minded people catch up on a fixed schedule without needing an RSVP.

The Vibe: Relaxed conversation often touching on local news, philosophy, sports, or politics over drinks and food.

Cultural Impact

No Scheduling Hassle: Because the time and place are permanent, members simply show up if they are free.

Political Slang: The phrase Stammtischpolitik refers to loud, simplistic, or populist opinions voiced casually among peers in a pub setting."

As I have mentioned in the past, I resided in Germany for five years working under contract for the military. The Stammtisch was an unadorned table devoid of any table cloth or any other decorations. Maybe a sign or an ashtray. You would never sit there as a visitor or tourist. Actually, a Stammtisch was rarely found in the large tourist venues and more in local villages.
After work, I would very often eat at my local gasthaus. It was great food and definitely not " A la carte.". You may have two choices on a good day.

After about a year of being a regular fixture, a familiar gregarious old gentleman approached me and asked me to join the rebel rousers at the table. If you lived in Germany, you know that, in mafia's terms, you were made. And I was a guest at the table until I left.

Upon my departure, they presented with a Stammtisch, not just any Stammtisch but the one that was on their table for god knows how long. I cried, They hugged. For what seemed an eternity. I was leaving a family.
