That is not correct. The only software glitch is the fact that non-iDrive owners cannot get their shift lights to stay on by default. I have to manually turn the shift lights on each time the car is started and they will work until the ignition is turn off.

I figured out how to turn on the the feature in i-drive (M drive settings menu) and on the BC stalk. However, it does not remain activated when I turn off/ turn on the car.

Gonna RTM when I get a chance to see what I'm missing if others (w/ i-drive) are able to keep it on without having to set it up on the stalk every time they turn on the car.

If the shift lights are real important to the 6MT guys, they just need to get a PW and the DCT shift lights MFW becomes equalized!

I just picked up my 09 E92 w/DCT from the 1200 mile service today. I made sure the shift lights were activated via I-drive in M Mode and via the computer using the turn signal stalk. Both say ON. No shift lights...even at 8000 rpm.

What gives....is there a glitch somewhere?

Do a search...someone on this board provided the solution ...it was driving me nuts as well as but I am all set now.. it was simply a menu option....On the 09 i-drive, once you are on the shift lights menu, you have to hit "options" button and you will get another menu which allows you to keep the setting even if you turn off/ on the car .....perhaps in the memory key setting menu on shift lights but i definitely recall having to hit the Options button ... best bet is to do a search on shift lights....

I've got an '09 E90 DCT w/ I-drive and I have the shift lights on in my M Setting and I have turned them on manually via the options "handle" right next to teh turn single. I am still only at 500 miles so I am yet to really open the car up, yet everytime i turn the car back on the shift lights show "ON" through the i-drive but show "OFF" on the options menu on the dash. What gives...

Yes, I had the same problem here. Set them on the turn signal stalk button but the shift lights would only then be active for that use. Next time you start up, they would default back to off.

If you don't have I-drive I don't know what the solution is, but if you have I-drive this is what you do.
Start the engine ( I could not do it with ignition on only) go to vehicle settings, select M-drive, under M-drive select shift lights, now, this is the important part, hit the "option" key and it will take you to the "M-key." Select shift lights here to on, and then exit. Now every time you start the car regardless of if you are using the M-button or not the shift lights will work.

I have done all of that but the M-key. i'll try it next time I get back in the car. Thanks:thumbsup:

I did whta you said, and it worked. I still had to use the contral stalk and set it there too, but when I restarted my car the shift lights were on. Thank you.

For me, I have the DCT 09, the car must be in "M Mode" or else they will not light up. I have all the options except for EDC.

Make sure that you have enabled Shift lights to be On in iDrive. I forgot which menu it is exactly, though. And the others are right, they only appear at the high rpm range...and when they appear, they light up green, yellow, red...incredibly fast that it's probably time to shift as soon as you see the first yellow light, because of your late body reaction time.

i have used them but problem is that you need to be paying attention as it goes green/yellow/red instantaneously assuming you have floored it...sometimes I leave it on D5 instead of S5...let the transmission shift at 8300+ ...

that's interesting i thought it would be configurable... <off-topic> man if only i had the chance to work on this car's software!!! i guess car manufacturers do not care too much about the software, which really sucks, but i'd make everything configurable

Not sure about the glitch, but what VictorH posted a few posts abovis exactly how to set it up, worked for me after I was having trouble doing the way the manual says.

This is what the PSW is for.

I'm gonna have to try this tomorrow cuz the shift lights have been kickin' my butt too.

You can configure them to be on all the time if you want.

Thank you!!!!! This worked for me. Now the shift lights stay on

So by doing this, will the shift lights work even if left in D mode?
