So I learnt that my transfer case has no drain plug and dealer said he'd suck out the oil from the fill hole and then refill the oil.

Is there any disadvantage to this design? Does it mean that you can't get all the particulates out doing this?
The advantage is less expense in manufacturing. Suck the oil out. Change it more frequently than you might otherwise.
But in order to do that, you have to use software to open the TC port to gain access. Without opening it up, you'll barely get 200cc out.

My local mechanic who just changed out my fluid said it was a PIA but with some backwoods intelligence, he figured a way to change it out :)

If there are particles in the fluid at the bottom of the transfer case -- and there always are -- and the transfer case is not manifesting any issues the particles are of no consequence.

Thus if they are not removed during the suctioning out of the fluid it is no big deal.

If I were faced with suctioning out fluid from a transfer case I'd do this when the transfer case and of course fluid was hot. Which I suspect is what the factory servicing calls for.
