(Not surprised it came up, but I wasn't leaning on it for any of my questions.)
I guess it just feels correct that a chain wrapped around two sprockets with no tensioner will have the two slack portions grow outward as it spins, naturally tugging the two sprockets toward each other. Not in some eventual time-frame, but immediately and with real, substantive force. But I am perfectly happy accepting this is an intuition that does not hold true.
