Same here. Dad passed away suddenly and unexpectedly 45 years ago,
just 3 days after his 55th birthday. He was cheated out of ever retiring
or watching his grandkids grow up. Even after all these years I still miss
him.

My old man had literally two of everything, so gifts for occasions were always difficult to pick.

On the way home from work one day, there was a commercial on a local radio station that started out with, "Looking for the ultimate Father's Day gift for your dad that he'll be sure to love?" Yes, I am! "Then get him a gift certificate for an introductory flying lesson! He will be able to take the controls of an airplane with an instructor, and have an experience he will remember forever."

At the time, he owned two airplanes and was IFR certified!

Lost him 32 years ago, in a crash flying one of his planes.....
