PPF Nightmare

So got my car front PPF (Hood, Bumper, Headlights, Fenders, and Side mirrors) done by this reputable shop according to google (4.9 Stars) on May 4th. Got the car back on May 12th and this was the final product. It was originally supposed to be the 11th but they were late which was very frustrating considering PPF was not put on the headlights, side mirrors, or fenders. I don’t want to deal with this shop ever again because the work was so bad and don’t want to deal with or worry about getting another bad product. Is this fixable if I bring it to a different more reputable shop? Looks like this guy is going downhill, he said he got into a car crash but wants to keep working. I’m scheduled to bring my vehicle in for the PPF check up to make sure everything cured well but i’m not sure I want to ever bring my vehicle back to this guy. Advice? I’m in Socal so if anyone knows a shop please, let me know

Assuming you’ve already paid, options are limited.
If you haven’t paid it’s easy. Go to a new shop and
they’ll start from scratch. Don’t trust online reviews.
Get forum members recommended shops, or go
see them in person.

If you’ve paid, and he won’t fully reimburse you,
you may need to give him the chance to redo
it all. Be clear you will not accept that work.
It’s quite possibly the worst I’ve seen, and
I’ve seen a lot of bad installs.

If you paid using a credit card, dispute the charge as that will give you leverage against this shop.

Funny enough, this is the second time that this shop had the car for PPF work. First time was a nightmare as well and I got a refund, this was completely for free and was supposed to make up for all the hassle. Which only created more hassle lol

In the last pic it looks like your tow hook receptacle is covered over so it can't be used. yikes. You're probably lucky you can open the doors.

Jesus... I would make him take it off and give my money back, without negotiating.
Then, put all those pics on every FB page Google review and instagram account regarding ppf or cars. 2 gipsies in their garage for 3days would have done a better job.

Oof. Personally, I’d get back whatever money I could and bring it someplace else to remove that and redo it.

I wouldn’t want someone that incompetent trying to remove PPF from the car. That where there’s potential for damage. Then you have an even bigger problem.

Low value post but dam that is crazy

Hack job - dispute the charge and/or have them redo and if they can't competently do it correctly as for a full refund, that looks ridiculous.

Damn - I am setup next week to jut get my front bumper/clip get PPF. I dont need to see this. .

Im sure Ill be OK but that looks horrible. Did they think you were gonna just drive off and be OK with this?

Two blotched jobs… In your original post you asked for advice. I would suggest that you keep in mind the adage… “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

What? This can't be real. I've never done PPF in my life, but I'm pretty sure I could do a better job. Does this shop have any Google reviews? I'd be interested to read a few.

It's really sad when you get bad services but what I'm missing here why would anyone pay for a service without examining that service before you pay? Things get a lot more complicated when you pick up the car. Don't assume you will prevail in a credit card dispute. If this end's up in small claims court this will get complicated.

To give you all an update, I did get a refund from that shop and I went to a forum recommended shop yesterday, One of One in SD, and they said it was one of the worst installs they’ve seen (which I was expecting). But also the terrible news is that apparently the bottom of the bumper was repainted by a previous owner possibly and if they pull the PPF off, the paint is coming off with it. So I’m looking at 1.5-2k minimum for the whole process of removing, sanding, painting, clear coat. Honestly pretty upset but oh well I still have PPF on it. Even though it looks terrible i’ll just keep driving it and I’m going to purchase this bumper from Alibaba and just get this painted instead. I’ll probably keep the PPF on the hood I haven’t decided because they did say that the hood was way better and shouldn’t have any issues coming off.

I was thinking the same thing...however how would anyone trust that shop after seeing this mess?

I would be worried about them cutting by hand or damaging your car while rushing the removal.

I would tell the shop owner the work cannot be accepted. You are not willing to have them fix it you just want a full refund. They actually made it worse for you if anything because now you are going to pay someone to spend time removing it first not to mention time wasted.

The question comes down to if the owner cares about the 4.9 Stars they have or if they care more about the money they took from you.

a 1 STAR review would drag them down. I think your obligated to give them 1 star if they don't give you a full refund. Otherwise you are taking a big loss.

did you post your pics on your review to save others from making a mistake? Pics are worth a 1000x words in this scenario. Really shows the level of work done at this shop and you have to be nuts to bring your car there after those pics.

I saw you got your refund which is great.

If the new shop uses steam it might be possible to pull the PPF without the paint coming up.

Also you might be adding a front lip in which case it would cover a good bit of the bottom bumper portion so the paint work might not be necessary.

Either way I am sure you will feel good when this is all done and fixed.
