CT/Northeast BEST PPF Installer HELP

Hi all, looking for your suggestions on BEST PPF installer in CT or surrounding. Ideally NOT NY/NJ as the drive there is awful.

I am VERY PARTICULAR. Looking for a reliable and timely shop to do a FULL PPF job. Key points as follows:

1. I don’t want your suggestion for shops you’ve used that “ask for a review” and have people supporting them just because they “do their best.” I’m NOT looking for “buddy” referrals or because “they were nice”.

2. I want genuine very particular shops that aren’t say, doing dirty work, in the same room as they do PPF.

3. PPF work must be thorough. Remove things such as certain emblems or say fender emblems to do proper full coverage PPF.( the more seams the more likelihood of lifting/failure. *Yes I will provide replacement emblems that are stuck on vs clip on.

4. If custom cutting difficult bends/curvatures, straight seams, not ragged. Of course I’m also looking for “fold over edges”.

I understand PPF is not a “perfect” art. There will be the occasional lifting/failures especially on the small ledges or high impact areas, but again. I want COMPLETE coverage and if they are warrantied and reliable they can assess in proper time.

Please understand, I don’t want your average detail shop that “does PPF” to the average guys standard. I personally install PPF on my daily drivers myself so I understand what I’m looking for vs what is possible. Yes a full car is too big/skilled of a job for me with lesser experience.

If you know of someone, please share. Again MAKE SURE THEY ARE RELIABLE and warranty their work.

YES, I know of a couple major shops in CT(not trash talking, but wasn’t satisfied with their work) but list them off and I’ll know what your expectations are vs mine.

I posted in a thread I started with the same question, just had my full car done by Billy at Whipskin in Bedford Hills, NY. Highly recommend, guy is a meticulous maestro, hand cuts all panels, wraps all edges, did an exceptional job. I went to 10 different shops to see their work in person, was also very impressed with Ultimate Gloss (Renan) and C&J (Carlos), both in Danbury. Ultimately picked Whipskin as he's the only one that does the work, which I liked. Not sure where you are in CT but if you want to shoot me a PM and we're close I'm happy to show you how it looks.

I’ve used Details by Dennis in Madison, CT for a few cars and he’s always been very good.

He’s not cheap, but IME he is very good and goes the extra mile. Eg. He orders the kits with the pieces oversized and removes the kidney grilles, roundel, and fender liners to wrap the film under these things.

I haven’t done a full car, just full font coverage, but that’s been a 3 day process, as he does thorough prep, the install, and cure time + finishing touches and final trim.

My new 26 G83 is with them right now.
My 3rd car with them. Getting full PPF
plus a few other things. It’s not pre cut
like the pre cut kits that can be found
online at Expel. A plotter is used to cut
film precisely to your model car’s panels,
with extra material for proper installation.
Everything is wrapped precisely. There are
no lines, and have never had any lifting.

Removal of all emblems, roundel’s,
door handles, piano black trim below
windows, etc. All carbon exterior bits will
be wrapped. They stand by their work.
The prep before film goes on is extensive.

Phil did my wife's M2, he took the badges off, laid PPF and reapplied them over the PPF.

I don't have much experience with PPF. will applying it over existing stone chips do anything to minimize their appearance? I don't expect it to make them disappear, but maybe having a flat surface across the chips might make them less apparent at some angles? Or not. Just wondering.

You will still see them. In some instances PPF accentuates scratches/chips under it..It's 100% a better option to have the paint corrected before applying the PPF.

It will not make them disappear. They’ll still be just as visible. Filling them before installing PPF would be your only option for reducing the visibility.

It’s worth noting that there is some risk if/when it would come time to remove the PPF due to age or damage. The PPF would likely pull the chip fill with it when removed. And there’s also a low chance, but still a chance, that it could rip off some factory paint with it, due to the weakened spots where the stones penetrated the paint.

OP, you have a lot of do’s and don’t’s for your requirements. I recommend YOU do the vetting and screening. Just like when I picked up my BMW in Spartanburg SC and researched a local PPF shop there. Having said that, here are two in Connecticut located along the shoreline.

Straight Jacket in Guilford, CT - I’ve met with them and received a PPF quote. I was hesitant because they seem like young kids, but they seem to know their stuff, and the cars they service are very pricey, like Land Rovers, Lamborghinis, and Mercedes AMG GT. I didn’t use them, because I found a good PPF shop near Spartanburg. I might use them for ceramic coating in the future.

Details by Dennis in Madison, CT. - Somebody already mentioned him. I used him to install PPF on my Audi a long time ago. He’s a 1-man or 2 -man shop, but he’s been doing PPF’s for over 25 years.
