VANOS covers

What’s everyone running these days? Planned to swap out my valve covers soon. I was between Evolve and Mporium covers. Pretty pricey to have someone check timing with the mporium though. I’ve seen forums suggesting some of these aluminum clip ons fail but haven’t seen any proof with evolve. I don’t track the car so I’m leaning more towards evolve to save a couple hundred dollars.

I just put SLON covers on last weekend. I was going to go with Evolve but I found a good deal on a set of new SLON covers. They go on tight. I’ve read all the post about failure, but I’m willing to bet that if they fail, it was because they were not installed correctly. You have to push pretty hard to get all the clips to “clip in”. It would be easy to miss one, especially if you don’t remove the timing covers. Good luck!

I’m happy with them, but I guess time will tell. Just don’t get the cheap knockoff versions that are out there

Agree (popcorn hehe) plenty of threads about them (inc doing throttle actuators, valve covers at the same time, to save on labor ‘while your in there’) do it right, do it once and forget.

To sum up just go the Mporium bolt on ones, Rebuild throttle actuators, NRW valve covers, spark plug tubes etc.

Those other threads are wild! All I want to know is which one is the least likely to blow my sh*t up 😂 wish more people would post which ones they’ve ran that have come loose or failed.

It only makes sense to me to do Mporium bolt ons if there is evidence Evolve has failed. Otherwise why spend the extra money to have someone do the timing work (was quoted over $400 for this). I already have rebuilt TAs. I have NRW valve covers and NRW spark plug tubes going on 😁

Hi, not wanting to start WW3, but I understand exactly what you’re saying, if there is no no evidence, but yet!!

But, my opinion, take it for what it is, no anger etc, something that is bolted on is far better than something that is clipped on.

Up to you, it comes down to a cost v risk decision ultimately.

Tend to agree. Seen some complaind about edge wear on the slon covers but none that come lose. Mine have stayed nicely since I put them on.

Wasn’t willing to spend for the labor to retime the engine, so ordered the Evolve clip-on option. Will be installed next week.
