Ask Me Anything: Recaro Sportster CS in E92 M3

Just installed these heated Recaro Sportster CS in my '13 M3 Comp. The car originally had the two-tone black and red. Used planted mounts and recaro sliders. If anyone has any questions about this specific setup, ask me any questions! There are some weird nuances to this. The only thing I' not 100% sure is how to do the heated seat wiring. Anyone know where I can get the wire with the correct adapter and how to wire it in? Thanks!

I am going through some drama trying to get the ones like you have without the silver embroidered recaro logo on the seat back. How and where did you order these without the embroidered logo?

AFAIK, AMX has the only plug and play option for heated seats. You need to buy his modified heat pad, and installation requires disassembly of the seat. The other option is to wire them up directly with the Recaro hardware and use the on/off switch on the seat.

Can you share where did you get the planted mount? From the pictures it seems the mount is more medial than other options. I am using MS floor mount and the off center positioning is really bugging me. Thanks

If your vehicle came with factory heated seats you won’t need the oem recaros ones you can tap In to the oem harness

Do any of these seats elevate up or down? I’m a bit vertically challenged. lol!

They are fixed, only slider front and back. Since my original post I have done some research and tried a few mounting options. There are a few different ways you can mount but with the lowest option (MS floor mount + Recaro sliders) they can lower from OEM seat position (maybe 1 - 2" based on subjective feeling). There are other slider/mount options, that are more or less similar and allows some variations of sitting heights. ********** provide a good write-up on some different options. I am using the JP recaro mount developed for F8x/E9x and they maybe lower from OEM seat by 1/2" but I was willing to sacrifice the additional height because it allows more center positioning.

Macht Schnell or MS92 make a specialized wiring kits. They make "plug-and-play" harnesses specifically for putting Sportsters into E9x chassis that handle the power draw safely to heat the seats

My wife is 5'1". Is there an option where you can adjust the height?

The only one with adjustable height (easily) I believe is the the Brey Krause which uses electric motor system; but this negates the desired effect of lowering seating position most people went to Recaro(s) for.

Did similar wiring kit searches circa 2023 when contemplating airbag/heated Recaros.
Results 'no joy', ultimately did ole school manual seats config...no regrets - no hassles

Ok, I've studied the schematics and ISTA and I have a plan. The underseat module outputs PWM to the mats to heat them up, top middle and bottom. Cool. Then there is a Thermistor around 1000ohms that monitors the heat and if it runs away it will shut things down. So, I will tap into the heater output for the seat, and I'll slap in a NTP thermistor to monitor things to keep the system happy. I'll do this tomorrow and report back.
