DTC P2096 code comes and goes on bmw 328i 2008

I opened my oil filler cap the other day and totally forgot that while putting it back i broke the cap a little on the side and next night engine light was on!the engine light comes and goes randomly and gives code p2096. There is no leak around the filler cap! Can broken filler cap cause vacuum leak and result in lean condition of fuel!
