Leather Ceramic Coat

Any advice on using these ceramic products on ventilated seats? Is it still okay to do so?

Yes, applying a coating on ventilated seats is fine (I did so on my X5). You’re applying so little product that there’s nothing penetrating the ventilation holes.

Very torn on this now. Bought the Adam's ceramic leather kit that's coming in this weekend. Just got my car back from my detailer today who did my PPF and ceramic on the outside. they told me ceramic coating the inside is snake oil and doesn't recommend it.

Whether you apply it or not is up to you. My incoming car has Silverstone, and all I wear are jeans. I’m definitely using it (plus Leather Masters leather dye transfer cleaner) to prevent dye transfer from permanently staining the seat leather. These products weren’t available (or at least I wasn’t aware of them) back when I had light-colored leather seats and put up with stained leather (or scrubbed the hell out of the stained areas in an effort to remove the transferred dye).

That's fair. I've got black seats, so assuming dye transfer shouldn't really be an issue for me. I just want to protect the seats and keep the car in good condition. Hmmm decisions decisions

Leather dye transfer is essentially a non-issue with black seats. (I had Coffee merino leather in my G05 X5.). That said, a coated leather surface is MUCH easier to clean and restore to its original matte finish. It's remarkable how quickly dark seats become shiny with repeated ingress/egress or (in summertime) with body oils. That was the 'tell' for me, for when my dark brown seats were due for cleaning: the driver's seat had a sheen the other (unused) seats didn't. Any of my leather or interior cleaners would restore the finish to its original luster in one quick step.

After doing second coat, I have 1/4 of 30ml bottle. Did I use too much or normal? 😀

Probably about right, I used almost a whole bottle on a G05.

After using the CarPro, I do notice somepart of leather is more skinny "looks oily". It looks like uneven finish. Anyone else experience it? Suggestion for cleaning it?

I bought colourlock leather shield for my car when it arrives.

So I had my detail guy apply XPEL Fusion interior ceramic coating to my Silverstone leather. So far so good. The leather is still soft and I don't see any color differences either.

I have the Adam's on my Silverstone and it does good. When I see a little diet, I just use a damo cloth an a little Turtle Wax interior cleaner and it's clean again without agitation. Turtle wax interior smells great also

I was going to try the Gyeon leather cleaner followed by the Gyeon leather ceramic coating. I have Fiona Red leather and I'm paranoid of two things:

1) The Gyeon cleaner and/or the coating potentially taking off any of the red dye. There are two options for the cleaner….medium and strong. I'd opt for the strong, but I don't want to see red coming off on the rag while I'm applying because it's stripping dye.

2) I love the buttery feel (and smell) of the Merino leather. In no way do I want to compromise that with the cleaner or ceramic coating.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of my concerns…..specifically with the Gyeon products?

My experience with CarPro leather coating is to wipe it on, then spread it back and forth until it's applied evenly. Then 5-10 minutes later, wipe off any excess. Result will be original, evenly matte finish. Areas which appear 'oily' are due to excess product being applied and inadequately removed. Left untouched like that, the product will cure (harden) and remain that sheen. Ceramic 'high spots' on paint can be removed by wet sanding; not sure how high spots on leather are removed.

Would you say it’s worth it to buy this product? Or should I just use some sonax leather cleaner and conditioner

I even coat whatever shoes or boots I wear in winter, in order to prevent salt residue from staining the leather or suede. It's workin' so far ...

thanks, so basically do the car pro coating, then use Sonax cleaner every few weeks/month and follow up with Sonax conditioner? Or do we not need to condition it?

I'm not sure what value leather conditioner adds, once the leather has been coated. The coating acts as a barrier between the leather surface and whatever chemicals come into contact with it. Said chemicals would include conditioners.

I coated the Merino leather on an X5 which we leased for 3 years. I cleaned the leather whenever it appeared soiled, but I never conditioned it (because it appeared good-as-new after just cleaning). I'm 14 months into the same regimen on my M4 and see no need to condition it, either.
