How To Videos: Cleaning your M3 step by step.

Ok, so he isn't doing the video on a M3 but I thought these videos were excellent. I have very little detailing experience, and like a lot of people I want to know what I'm doing so that I can be able to wash my car myself properly and have it look immaculate.

The videos are split up depending on the operation. And are listed in sequential order.

Each video is around 9 minutes long and shows him doing a section of the car with the named operation.

After trying to filter through the seemingly endless amount of information of Autopia.org I found these videos to be a welcomed summary of such a detailed and elaborate process.

I don't think your supposed to wax/clay every time. Isn't it like every 6 months you do that? I'm gonna start using the zano products. Haven't washed my car yet, got it yesterday but when its time, I'm gonna do it right so I don't get any scratches or any unwanted "visual effects".

Clay is always good .. darker cars esp cuz if your polishing/waxing and you got dirt in the paint that you cant see......mucho swirls are in store ...kinda like what happens when you see the kids at the dealership with terrycloth bath towels washing new cars....getting your car washed at a dealer is a sin

depends on what products. Sponges and towels and stuff? Go to any store and pick up some microfiber cloths. Don't use regular towels and cheap ass stuff. You will scratch your car. Be very picky and don't be cheap. You just spend 60 - 70k on a brand new car, whats another $20- $30 worth of microfiber towels? You can get a good size microfiber towel for $6 to dry your car. and 6 smaller pieces for other uses for $10. Don't use the same towel when drying your car on your wheels, paint, glass, the inner door place (lol i dont know what its called you know where it says ///m3, yah that place). microfiber is your friend it works like magic. Soaps, waxes and sealants? They're all over the internet. I like the zaino line. http://www.zainostore.com

6 month is good. I have to admit, thought sometime I went up to a year. But I have to find out, if waxing is beneficial between claying.

Claying: I feel the paint as I apply soap, if a spot is not smooth then I would clay bar it with soap directly, which works as the lub

Wax: My rule of thumb is when water does not bead anymore (when it sits as a pile) on your paint, it's time to wax!

Waxing would be supremely beneficial in between clayings. Wax will limit pollutants from bonding to your clear coat.

I <3 zaino.

Anyone know of any videos specific to Zaino (polish) products? I bought ZFX, Z2, Z5, and have no idea how to apply them properly. According to the FAQ on Zaino's website they recommend against orbital polishers.

Wash your car every week. Wax once a month or so. You can wax more often if you want too but it won't really be necessary. Of course it depends on the type of wax you use as well. Claybar once every few months. I read somewhere that twice a year would be sufficient for a typical daily driver.

I'm not sure if I want to get into polishing yet. Since polishing seems to be the most abrasive step towards your clear coat I think I'll hold off on this step and just wash, clay, and wax for now. Maybe after a car is multiple years old I may start polishing but I definately need to read more about the different types of polish and how to tell how abrasive a particular polish I come across is.

I agree about Zaino products having their own deal going on. They don't seem to sell straight up wax either. More just polishing products.
