I have an 09 M3 which has navigation, bluetooth and sirius radio.

My friend has 2012 335i that he's trading in end of the month for X5 for his wife. On his screen he has a office option and obviously i don't... His bluetooth also alows audio over it and mine is only for phone.

We were thinking of just removing his and swapping it with mine (coding is not an issue) but we're not 100% sure if this will work... This is the only thing i see in his trunk... is this the combox?

Another question, since mine doesn't have an alarm and his does, can anyone point me out what all i would need to remove from it to make it work in mine?

Thanks a lot for all the info.

Contact forum vendor BimmerTech for details on how to perform both swaps. Neither is trivial.

Figured out the alarm... Need help with the box... Can we just swap his for mine, or is it tied to a win?
Ha! Like I always said.. When it comes to this info or anything to do with coding and combox, unless you're willing to pay, you won't get any help.

I believe it won't work what you're trying to do. His will work in your car but you'll need to rewire it... Since he's selling his, might be better letting it be. I'm looking for combox as well and believe I'd be able to code it myself... Maybe ;-)

Good luck.

There is another forum -we are not allowed to crosspost here- that will answer all the coding questions that anybody will ever think about.

The real question is -why forum members not freaking search and learn by themselves if they do not want to pay for help? How do you think that I learn how to do all that and more? Do you really think that I paid somebody?

I know about the forum... That's how i learned about coding... Lately that forum has been kind of weird with sharing certain data... but other than that, it's the only place left.
Thanks to both! I figured out what i needed on the other Forum.

Both the Combox and TCU are VIN coded.

I wouldn't suggest a swap without proper coding, it will leave telephone functions in both cars inoperable. After the swap and proper coding, the assist accounts will also be switched, so you should disable that or contact BMW to switch the ESN's.

Also, your car must have software new enough to support combox also (plus you will need the harness and a terminator for the mulf module if equipped).

Other than what I pointed out, the units will work in each car without issue.

Off topic, Is this the combox with telematix? I can't find this part number on realoem.com, but found the one ending in 1092 as opposed to 1090.

thanks

If your going to do anything contact Benvo, bottom line. He did my cic retrofit, combox retrofit, coding, and tuning. He is legit and will get you hooked up

You have a TCU pictured, the Combox is pictured in post #1.

In order to upgrade to the Combox, you will need a combox (of course), wiring harness as well as coding. Since we are not local to you, I would recommend you contact BimmerTech as Technic stated earlier to assist in remote coding.

Well the picture i posted is from 2011 335i.. I thought they came with combox... no? I understand it's different from what Boostin FD posted, but i was under the impression that there are 2 types...

2011 was a very long production year.

2011.75+ models started coming Combox equipped.

So there is no TCU+Combox unit? All I care is pretty much having Bluetooth streaming... The box I posted doesn't do that?

I believe Combox cannot co-exist with either the TCU nor the MULF since the combox replaces both of them. If you want steaming, you would have to go combox or buy one of those belkin adapters as a workaround.
