the fact of the matter is. We had REAL bespoke engines, in the last gens. The M4 FEELS to much like a 335i. If i was a owner of a 335i right now, i never owned the screaming V8. I was happy with my Jb4 and my torque. I would love this M4.

For YEARS, M3s have been getting higher Redlines each model. This is the first time it revs lower than a outgoing model. I can deal with a lower red line. i cant deal with this sound after owning a V8 m3 with a aftermarket exhuast setup. Does this mean i am going to keep my e92 and let M4s be faster than me. HELL NO i just need a faster growling V8 car.

look at the engine in my signature, thats a mans engine.
They could have dropped in a detuned s63 from the M5/M6 instead. But I guess the rich boys who buy the M5 and M6 would be turned away at the thought of a lowly M3 having the same engine as their potential car.

I let my E90 M3 go a few years ago and now have mods sitting in my garage for another...easily could just pick up the new 4 door and sell my mods...however...no. The V8, comfort, and styling is what I love about this car and I will pick one up where someone goes for the new one....can't wait!

I will keep my E90 M3 - V8 and less issues

Consumer Reports' 2010 Annual Car Reliability Survey: GM makes big strides, while Honda, Toyota dominate
(Source: http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/26/2...bility-scores/)

BMW had a bad year, with five of its 11 models scoring below average. While the BMW M3 topped the sporty cars category, the 1-, 3-, and 5-Series models with the 3.0-liter turbocharged (N54) engine had high problem rates related to the fuel system, among other gripes.

its amazes me how the E90 with its high revving engine, DCT transmission and other high tec stuff has been so reliable over the years.

What would be the point of having a detuned S63 exactly?

As for me, I just added an E36 M3.

The plan is to have both the E36 and E92, wait until F80 gets ZCP and until I can afford one. Then have 3 M3's and put myself in a horrible financial situation

The End

P.S. This is of course assuming the F80/2 is a reliable car, like both the E36 and E9x are. Otherwise, 0 interest.

That's a BTG lap...easily add 25 seconds to that. The fastest E9X M3 i saw on BTG was 7.19 by Schirmer, which equates to 7:45 ish. I believe that car was Akra, custom suspension and semi slick Dunlops. Otherwise stock motor so yea I guess you're right but probably need some uber skills as well.

That's the one difference with the E9X M3...its probably BMW's most reliable car. Even more amazing considering how many you see at the track and just plain getting driven hard.

My only 2 gripes with my E90 are the cup holders and gas mileage. One run to redline...those don't really matter anymore!

I'd look at it a little differently, a lot more of M car engineering and technology is making it into mainstream cars. But I do agree there is an ever increasing blurred line between regular BMWs and M cars.

I'll wait until I get to drive one to make a final judgement. Because the 3700lb E9X M3 was a far departure from the M3 mold in many ways on the spec sheet but it ended up being an absolute fantastic machine. The engine was awesome but the car as a whole is what makes it special. Drive one and steer it with your right foot...then you'll be in total bliss. Just reading into the reviews so far...this new M4 is supposed to be an even more exciting drive despite the apparently poor exhaust and engine note.

Well in all fairness, cars that perform very good are usually also fun. the m4 is a better car in terms of performance. its faster, it handles better, it has more power etc. So in a lot of those reviews, they are saying a faster lighter car is more fun. which makes sense.

for me the sound was a major part of the excitement, unlike a lot of people. For me the E92 with a full exhuast, raised red line etc. was unreal. It seems like a good replacement would be a Ferrari.they cost a lot though lol

To me fair, i have a problem with most cars coming to the market anyways. i could easily see my next car being turbo charged, because they simply no longer makes the engines i want.

I have the good fortune, for now, of being able to own an e92 and an Audi S6 tuned to 560hp/580 lb-ft. and it has the AWD traction to get the power to the ground.

The Audi is ballistically fast, has a stunning interior, and one of the best audio systems I have ever heard in an automobile.

But when it comes to sheer driving pleasure, it does not compare to the M3. The subjective feel of the M3's suspension, steering, and engine is, to me, absolutely perfect. Every time I drive the car, it leaves me wanting for nothing. I can't get over just how perfectly balanced it is, how it dials out just a tad of harshness but leaves you completely connected to the road.

I keep wondering what next....

AM Vantage
Jag F
Cayman GTS
R8
C7 Vette

Who knows? I will drive them, but honestly, if the subjective driving experience, in all it's aspects, isn't better than the M3, I won't bother with anything else.

Enough of us who have been around the block and driven numerous performance cars and their various iterations can completely relate to the comments above. You know when something feels pretty much perfect and would be very tough to improved upon. I harken back to the days I owned a 2003 E46 330i sedan, and that car in many ways was so good and so ahead of its time, IMO felt better than any current F30 and in some aspects, better than my M3. Beyond a certain point, the acceleration capability becomes less of a determinant of overall driving pleasure.

Actually to be cheeky about it, you should do the reverse and sing the laurels of the F80 in order to "free up" some E90s...kidding of course!

This is strong stuff coming from an F10 M5 owner.
It'll be interesting to hear more thoughts as the F8X's begin to fill the streets.
Always good to hear the other non-politically correct perspective. Good luck, i will be keeping mine for a long time.

Looking forward to your review!

Definitely keeping my M3. IMO, driving pleasure it is not about numbers , or how fast your car is, .... It is about how your car makes you feel. Every time I drive my M3, it makes me smile, it makes me want to drive it more. My M3 is the single thing I have owned more than 3.5 years and I still love her the same way I loved her the first day I bought her. And believe me, I keep changing my stuff quickly, as I get bored from them so fast. There is something about this car that keeps me wanting to drive it more and more .....

Most likely adding a motor bike and a Corvette, but never going to sell my M3, especially after modding her exactly the way I wanted.....
