That's very strange ... I had 140E on mine given it's an '07 build car, and I didn't have any problems updating to 240E and then 240 with Stage I and subsequently Stage II tunes from BPM. I think this claim and the issue with your update is worth investigating further.

I'm gonna see how the tuned 190e file works out, even though i'm still skeptical on why my car won't update to a 240e im still pretty sure that evolve knows what they're doing and my car will be just fine

I thought the major difference started with 231E and 240E is very similar but also probably the final factory revision for the car. From what I've read the latest factory maps have more data points to allow for a finer calibration to be made. The result is better power gains as well as better response as a result. I've yet to hear of a car that "couldn't be updated", but they tune more cars than I program. It's software and if there's an error loading it then there is an error with the calibration or checksum. At least that's what it seems like to me.

OP, glad you got it fixed. You asked about updating your car. If the dealer won't do it for you, somebody with an AutoLogic probably can. I updated my own car with a device called "PassThru-XS." With that device, you can get a 1-day subscription to BMW TIS online for $30, and update your own car. The catch: PT-XS is probably more money than you want to spend.

I had a hunch you'd be back to claim intellectual superiority over this issue. You certainly didn't disappoint. So let's take a slightly more critical look at what was said, and where (if anywhere) you were correct over the master tech.

Here's what he said:

Now I shouldn't need to explain how to interpret what MHM3 said above when it's pretty simple and clear. MHM3 simply said "IF" you can't communicate, your ECU is bricked. Clearly the OP COULD communicate with his ECU, thus the "your ECU bricked" clause from MHM3 was never invoked. That doesn't make him wrong in any way; so to claim that it does...is wrong. I'll still trust him over somebody with no known credentials.

That is very interesting. I would like to understand why this is so though... I wouldn't think BMW would make a car that the software can never be updated.

Hopefully Evolve can chime in and answer? Purely for my own knowledge so PM is fine as well.

OP: Glad everything worked out!!

They didn't say my car couldn't be updated, they just said that my car wasn't eligible to update to the 240e, but evolve says it doesn't hinder any improvements so i'm okay with it

Nah, Longwong is a west coast guy and pretty easy to identify his true identity if you piece together all the breadcrumbs he left behind. If I'm correct, our current troll is an east coaster -- specifically from New Jersey.

Why wouldn't you be eligible if you got a tune and you were at 190E? What makes a car non-eligible? I am glad it doesn't hinder any improvements and that you enjoy the car, that is what matters!!

And I apologize for starting the Longwong material in this thread (though it is quite funny).
