BMW navi sucks

I have the Nav in my Z4 but own and have owned several Japanese cars with Nav as well. The BMW is by far the worst. Specially the actual display and the map drawings. Looks like they were done on MS paint by a 12 year old.

When will BMW offer a more modern display with touch screen and better graphics?

Compared to other cars, BMW's system looks dated.

The Nav in the Z4 is loosely based on the older style I-BUS NAV architecture BMW originally put in the E38 Series back in 1999! Although its had some upgrades along the way, with improved GUI and map positioning with perspective view, its still pretty poor but functional.

The NAV (part of i-drive) in the E92 M3 is certainly an improvement with new features such as Real Time Traffic Info , dynamic re-routing and improved graphics.

Ever driven a lexus? I have a 2008 RX360 and the M3. BMW is superior.

It's like mac vs PC....the BMW being the mac.

There is a little learning curve but after the first few times using it you get used to how it is set up. I have no complaints except that I wish I could do a search by name on my current location or my destination location. Sometimes I just Google a place on my phone first and get the address.

The 2008 M3 Nav UI sucks so bad, that I got so frustrated and bought the Concierge service for $200 USD. Now I don't have to deal with it, I just click on concierge, and the nice person on the other end does all the work for me.

BTW, there's an entire thread (I started) about how bad this nav unit is.

Germans were never known for their electronics so I wasn't that surprised that BMW's navigation isn't up there with Japanese makers such as Honda/Acura.

Touch screen is most likely the easiest way to use navigation.

But Audi's MMI unit is way better than BMW's idrive. BMW's idrive is still a work in progress.

Who is buying a M3 for navigation anyways, it just happens to come in the Tech Package.

After using iDrive I regret not getting BMW Assist for the concierge service. I'm going to ask the dealer to do a retrofit (punching myself for not getting ZPP)
