Brakes Under Extended Warranty

I purchased my car from a private party last year and it had a warranty on it. I just had to get a tire replaced because the idiots doing construction in my area suck at cleaning up and left nails and a razor blade laying around! Anyways, my tire guy mentioned that I had about 20% remaining on my brakes and I was wondering approximately what range people were getting their brakes replaced under warranty. I believe the car itself says like 7k or 9k miles until the service is due.

Thanks for the help. I was active on 1Addicts but haven't been active since moving to this platform.

I am a 2011 E90 if that helps. Also, how do we get a copy of the warranty?

Your 2011's 4 year maintenance program expired two years ago at minimum. I'm not aware of any such BMW warranty program that would last 6 years and cover maintenance items.

That is a good warranty that covers maintenance.

A warranty and a maintenance plan are different things. Call a service advisor at your dealership and they'll likely be able to look it up by your vin.

assuming you do have some kind of extended maintenance plan that would cover brakes.... it's usually a bit of a pain to get the dealer to replace anything that isn't called for by the CBS. If your car's computer isn't saying the brakes need to be replaced the dealer will probably tell you to come back unless you can somehow convince them to replace them early.

Although i'm going to say the service light should have triggered by now if there is only 20% left....

Assuming coverage, unless the rotors are beyond the wear limit they will just install a $75 set of front pads.

Btw, tire guys will almost always recommend brakes. It's a high profit add-on.

That is what my SA said. And your question about it being low without the warning was why I was confused. I'm hoping that maybe they were off in their comment to try to get me to replace early.

Warranty covers defects in material and workmanship. I don't know of any warranty or extended warranty that covers wear and tear.

I got the full answer from my SA. Essentially I am covered for the service when the computer says I am covered. I am going to check to confirm where my brakes actually are and hopefully can hold off until the computer says they are needed.
