My Motorwerks BMW dealership has zero experience with rod end bearing failures since 2008.

When BMW has repetitive failures, they replace parts and issue extended warranties like they did with the High Pressure Fuel Pumps. If they don't, people sue them and they lose class-action lawsuits - as happened with their wastegate failures.

I hope your not na´ve enough to believe your stealership...nor BMW for that matter. Read up on bearing failures and other problems with past BMW engines..
Direct experience? Yep, I know someone who had bearing failure (with only 15k miles on his engine not modified), plus it is all over this forum, all over other forums, do a search and pull it up, read the bearing thread that is over a million pages long...
However, I mentioned in my post " easy to make fast and wont blow out bearings like ours"...I mentioned it in the context of modifications and making it go fast.... which increases the risk of bearing failure significantly in our cars.
More direct experience? Yep, I owned a Dodge SRT4 and I modified it to hell and when I sold it, it had 150k miles on it......I don't think you can do that with a S65.
I am not saying it is not avoidable, blackstone analysis of oil, non modifications, allowing the oil to sufficiently warm up, oil changes more frequent etc etc... I am sure If you treat the S65 with care, it will last and have a low probability of bearing failure -still keeping my warranty. If your modifying it and treating it like a Dodge engine...nope.

If you have 50K, you can get an M3 coupe with less than 30K miles. Why are you looking at one in the mid 40s?

I have a '14 Jeep SRT and an ESS. FI E92 M3. I cannot imagine comparing the two.

The Jeep is my daily driver. The M3 is stored in the winter.

The Jeep is lousy in the winter without winter tires. Even all seasons are bad. The ride quality of the Jeep is also lousy on anything other than highway. It also requires you to buy an oil rig to keep up with the gas fill ups. But it is fun to drive and goes like crazy. Quite honestly though, at times I wonder if I should have purchased an Audi S4. I think fundamentally I am just more of a car guy.

The M3 is simply an amazing car across so many fronts. Mine is tastefully modded (ESS, Akra, Stop Tech, Ohlins) which has made it even more fun. I smile every time I get in it. I have never regretted the M3 purchase at all. In fact I'd buy another one. I am pretty lucky to have both, but a lot of guys do drive thier M3 all year round.

In the end it is your personal preference. For me it would be am I more of a car guy or an SUV guy.

Good luck.
