Well.. thats a first...

I was pumping gas at my local BP and I noticed the pump took longer than usual to fill up. So I look down and to my horror right as I did gas started to overflow out of the gas tank. I immediately released the handle, and wiped off the gas the overflowed. The car drove off fine, no error codes or anything. I just hope my charcoal canister is ok. This ever happen to anyone?

Happened to my E46. Not E92.

I'm assuming its because of the pump not the car, correct?

Happened to me once at a particular pump. I was just glad I hadn't set the auto-fill switch and gone to buy a snack in the store!! In any case, the problem was that pump shutoff not working. There's actually a cool article on HowStuffWorks that explains how pumps do that, incidentally.

Ironically I more often have the opposite problem of the pump shutting off too early, which is apparently a design issue with the car that makes it more picky than usual about pump placement.

It's happened to me once or twice, but has not in any way become a recurring problem like some folks I've read on here. Just see how it goes for a bit.

Yes, on several occasions over the years . Sometimes the pump/nozzle is not sensitive to the level of gas in the tank . I've not had an issue with the carbon filter as a result of these over flows .
