Well, it seems the 335 owner here was the fastest to look like a moron since it only took him 2 posts over the space of a few hours to look dumb. LOL "badge whore/maxima post" brings to mind the Dave Chappelle skit about the blind racist.

335 police, please send someone not dumb.

Tell me does the same thing happen with regards to M3 vs M5 or M5 vs M6 etc.

I can't understand all of this, never in all my days posting on Audi websites did I ever see such internal fighting.

Oh yeah, I drove the new M3 as well. Yesterday I drove the new M3. So what if C63 is faster. Doesnt make the M3 a slow car, in fact it's more than 95% of the population can handle. The car is so well balanced and easy to control, even my old grandmother can drive fast with the new M3. I broke the speedlimit several times yesterday, 180km/h in third gear and if the police gets you, your license is gone.

There is tons of grip and you can take a bend faster than you thought what was possible. You can drive superfast without anything goes wrong, the car so wellbalanced and it's so easy to control. The new M3 is orgasmic.
I'm not worried if C63 beats you becuase there will always be someone faster than you. Heck, if I was worried to get beaten, well, a tuned Toyota Supra can cure that.

For me driving is more than just a straightline, its the total package that matters. M3 offer good comfort and is just as easy to live with as a 335i, in fact the suspension is better than a 335i thanks to the adjustable suspension.
For the price of the M3 its hard to find another car that do so much great as the M3 does for you. No longer can you use the excuse that the M3 is to harsh for you to live with. Top on that you mix the M3 with a dose of acceleration, tons of grip and tons of driving pleasure. And let's not forget, the M3 is beautiful car to look at too.

It's really that good!

So, M3 or a C63? which is the best? None I would say, they are both good. Highreeving concept or big block concept? it comes down to details which one you choose and you cant go wrong with neither of them.

Oh, with the new DCT gearbox the M3 will get even better, Im sure of it.
335 w / Vishnu is quicker ? I'm curious, the 08 M3 traps 113 mph stock!

I have both 335 & M3. Both cars are exceptional period. I could care less which is faster. When I procede the car Ill debate and laugh at myself for spending so foolishly on the M3. Then when I get my new E92 M3 Ill call myself a badge whore and say what a complete idiot I am for spending 20-25 k more on a car that is completly classless in every way compared to the modded 335. Hmm I have a 4 door JK Jeep. There is no BMW that can go where I can or outperform it in the wild. How much insecurity exists on this board.

I read most of the posts here. Unless I missed it. I didn't read anything about the glorious growl of the V8? I'm sure the twin turbo (I drove one time) sounds nice, but, IMHO there is no substitute for that V8 feel and song. I would also guess there will be tons of mods for the V8 out quick enough that will negate all this thread had to offer anyway. No offense, debate is dabate, but, a slightly modded M3 will thump a 335i with no problem from what I have read.

Well, the 335 is faster than the E46 M3

I've owned both,

I will take the E92 M3 over the 335 anyday.

And my 335 is sick as hell =)

What is interesting is that you dont go to the Porsche forums and find people argueing about buying a GT3 or a 997 TT. Two cars that are priced relatively close together but offer two completely different driving experiences as well as modability.

For me, stock for stock, I would take the M3. To me the added RELIABLE performance out of the box for the M3 is worth the extra 15K-20K.... but thats just me...

Not in the same league, the two cars and the owners' bank account.

335i is for people who can't afford m3. Just like 135i owner can't afford a 335i. Last time I checked the regular 3 series forum is all about baller status. When does a baller need to worry about practicality?

(Disclaimer: Opinion above does not reflect my personal view, I am applying the igornant 335i owner's mentality. Special note, not all 335i owner are igornant.)

It's funny rest of the bmw family gets along just fine except for the few 335i owner bad mouthing everyone else. Look in the mirror lately?
OMG...

Dude.. you think because people have money they have to spend all of it..? I'm in the market for approx $70k car. A summer car that will bring back the frill of the older M3 days I remember so well. It doesn't have to be a BMW... ie Porsche. But, it needs to make me feel like a pilot again.

Guess what ? This spring I am going to test drive a new M3 and If I don't like it (crossed out some 12 cars now), I am going to buy a 135i fully loaded, minus nav/idrive and have a truer sense of the raod and some incredible performance. Purchasing some lightweight rims, fatter tyres, ECU tune, exhaust, lsd, suspension and the 135i will be a serious contender on the track than an M3, for about $30k less.

I'm sure I am not the onlyone thinking or doing this. It's a perfect kit car... ie Clubsport!

If you think everyone driving a 335 wishes they were driving an M3 then your perception of how much income people spend on cars is waaay off. I don't like the interior of any e90... thus I've been waiting.

Now it's becomming clearer!

If it was so simple as to buy a 335i or 135i and spent £10K ($20K) of performance parts and you would have the equiviant to an E92 M3 then do you not think BMW would be doing as much themselves.

You may get the performance of the M3 but as for the rest I very much doubt throwing extra cash at either will make it an M3.

For BMW, it all about maximizing profits. Why build the cheapest car that will out perform a more expensive car in their lineup? You purposely hamper the more inexpensive car with lack of performance aids ie. LSD, better oil cooler and tranny cooler, better tires (not suckflats), and better wheels.

Porsche does the same thing line up. The boxster and cayman are in reality better handling cars by virtue of their mid engine platform than the 911. They put a less powerful engine in it and no LSD. Its all about the bottom line, my friends.

We as the educated enthusiast need to be aware of this

Tell that to VW, they were selling the Veyron at 1,000,000 euros while the car actually cost 5million euros to make. Some clearly did his sums wrong.

But back to the debate of whether you can simply throw $15k at a 135i and end up with a car which equals the M3 on every front. I don't know if it's as easy as that, Alpina have been modifing BMWs into M rivals for years and they always sell for around the same money and always match or better their performance but sadly miss out on the driving experience that makes the M cars so special.

That my friend is something you just can't buy at a parts shop.

If you throw money at either the 135i or 335i to buy HP, traction, handling, and cooling goodies you will make a great performance car which should be able to best the E92 M3 around a race track. But it will be a different car than an M3 in feel, power delivery, warranty (or lack there of), and look. It does not mean either is better or worse than the other. It's just another way to skin the cat.

Track guys are gonna mod the M3, too (since even it's suspension will not be up to the task of true road course lapping when running R compound tires), so it may make more economic sense (if tracking the car is a priority) to start with a car that costs $20K less and use that money to then build it into what they want it to be.

As unmodded and slightly (VIshnu) modded street cars the M3 will be the more all-around (feel, sound, look, warranty) package while the 335i is the more practical (huge and drivable torque, great fuel economy, $20K cheaper) choice.

IMHO the 135, 335, M3 are all winners. Different price points, different market niches, different strokes for different folks. Get the one that's right for you and be happy that we as consumers benefit from having 3 fantastic choices.
