EDC dampers: Expendable or serviceable?

They must cost a lot, so here is a practical question.
Can they be serviced / repaired or do they have to be thrown away (changed) at the end of their term, like ordinary dampers?
What's the firm's policy on that?

Btw: how much would they cost as spare parts?

That's a good question; one that probably cannot be answered accurately at this time being that the car and its EDC suspension is new. It would be nice if BMW made them rebuildable like an aftermarket damper.

But is history is any indication the EDC system on the e34 M5 had very expensive and not rebuildable shocks. I expect that these M3 shocks will be very expensive to replace. They might be very durable though, so this just might not be an important issue. Aftermarket solutions might also be possible.

Rebuild?

Most shocks are serviceable/rebuildable whether or not the factory/manufacturer claims that or not. Unless the shocks are quite expensive it will probably be less expensive to replace them rather than rebuild them. I'm not sure what your current shop rate is but mine is $90/hr. Rebuilding shocks is likely to be a skill most regular shops don't have. Fine work, getting very small parts crystal clean. Dealing with easy to damage and difficult to install seals, special tools, etc. Last but not least my OEM E36 M3 shocks lasted well over 100k miles. I would not feel too bad about replacing shocks on that type of schedule.

$574.74

Real OEM lists Rear Shock Absorber for M5 with EDC as $574.74 EDC control sensor is $525.64. Accelerating sensors price is not listed.
Perhaps this would give you an idea of the price for parts on the M3 with EDC shocks. Unsure how hard it is to tell if it's a bad shock or a bad sensor or accelerating sensor.

Shock or Shocks, aren't they only sold in pairs?
