People often wanted Heated Seats only and not the "Warts" that came with their ZCW

The seller should be able to tell you what options were in his car. The heated seats came with a cold weather package which included the following options: High pressure headlight cleaners; Asymmetrical front facing rear seats; Includes: [465] Fold Down Rear Seats with Ski Bag And [494] Heated Front Seats

He doesn't seem to know much about them and he only has the 2 front seats. Are there any tell tale signs on the seat or wiring harnesses, if not can I fit the heating element in mine into them?

Thanks for your help btw.

I was gonna ask to do a VIN search but just realized no car to go with, it sounds like.

I'm not aware of any easy visual differentiators (though there may well be some), so I'd recommend either asking the seller if he has the part number(s) that go with the seats or their components, which you can use on RealOEM to determine whether they include heating, or if they were pulled from a car rather than ordered as parts, ask the seller for the VIN of the donor car, which you can then use to see whether that car was ordered with heated seats using a tool like BMW's own VIN decoder I mentioned in a thread earlier today.

Actually, turns out RealOEM has a special subsection of seats just for the seat heating elements: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...12&hg=52&fg=65. Not clear from the diagram how exposed those elements are in the seats themselves though, but if a VIN lookup isn't possible maybe see if the seller can look for those part numbers on the receipts for his seats? Otherwise a visual inspection of the seats couldn't hurt.

And lastly, I see from your avatar that you have a 325i. I don't think M3 seats are a plug and play affair into that car. Even if they physically mount without modification, you might run into problems getting the electronics to accept them. I don't know for certain that you WILL have problems, but I'd do some research there before buying the seats if that's what you're planning. For example, if you buy heated seats but your car didn't come with them, you'll need software coding as well as the extra center console parts and potentially different wiring harnesses to be able to use them. And if you buy non-heated seats but your car came with heated, you'll probably need software coding to suppress errors and possibly again different wiring harnesses.

does heating the seats cause premature cracking and ware on the leather?
Always wondered.
