About to become an M owner

Hi All,

I have been looking for an used M3 for quite some times now.

I AM actually on my way to pick up the car from out of state.

I will be getting an 08 sedan manual with low miles.

My nerves are a bit uneasy at the moment. I AM not sure what I AM getting into and feeling buyers remorse.

Lots of worry that the car requires frequent expensive repairs in the near future. I AM somewhat capable of small repairs if instructions are available and I have a daily beater I can depend on if the car breaks down.

I will look into a dependable warranty in the future to hedge for large items (e.g., rod bearing, vanos...etc). most likely going with easycare or bmw warranty.

I AM excited but hopefully this is the right choice.

I currently also have A 2010 sti hatch and the wife is driving it so I AM hoping the M3 will add more fun to my relatively short commute.

Hopefully thisbsetves as a pre-intro to myself.

Thanks for reading.

You can always check the history of the car when you can have the key of the car and go to a BMW dealer, they can read the history when the key is entered in the pc system !
When you can get the key than i think the car will be ok,when not....mmmm...than watch out my friend !
So the car is from 08 with low miles on it...how many miles ?
BTW...you can also take some pics of the car and post them in this thread and ask of someone knows this car...good chance that you will get more info about this car !
Anyway....good luck man ...

Yhanks. It has 30k miles and. Ppi was done by a reputable indy. The seller seems to be trustworthy from what I can tell. Even looked through his LinkedIn profile.

All l service records are available. Just waiting to get there. Also, Carfax is clean and I ll do a final inspection before signing over the check.

In the same boat

There is always a risk with purchasing a car, however it seems that you're doing all the right things to protect yourself.

FWIW, I've recently purchased a 08 6MT E90 (wee bit higher mileage - around 46k) and did all the same things you're doing. Couldn't be happier

Chances are, you're gonna love your new car. Keep us posted.

I AM sure you will be fine. These cars seem to only have a few issues (throttle actuator, ICV) so I would get a third party warrantee for peace of mind more than anything else. From what I have read warranttees *through* BMW aint' cheap. Read the 08's with high mileage thread for further reassurance. Congrats, you will love it!

Other than those taillights that come on the '08, I think you'll be glad you bought it. It looks like you found a low mileage ///M, which is a huge plus. I went from an '07 335i to an '11 M3, and couldn't be happier! Enjoy and of course, posts pics of her once you get the chance.

Don't stress too much. I did the same thing. 6spd sedan. The only thing I'm worried about, but put money aside for is $1,600 plus a few hundred extra for two throttle actuators. Otherwise, I'm not worried about rod bearings or any other repairs. Previous owner already had the door lock actuator or whatever it is that stops the doors from locking/unlocking replaced. I heard that was the most common issues amongst bmw's in general.

I'm coming from owning older toyotas, a 2007 Si that I bought new and replaced the motor myself. So its a bit of a change knowing I won't be able to work on this car since I don't have the equipment. I wouldn't worry though. I'm not putting as much mileage on it as my old cars, which seems to be your case as well.

If you're in NJ, check out signature detailing for full paint correction. He's in Northern NJ and his name is Greg Gallas. I knew him from years ago when he started detailing. Top notch work.

Another new owner thread? Geez...
Stick with your Subaru and pick up a cheaper E46. Done and done.

Still have the Subaru and wife is driving it.

Thought about e46 but too hard to find a clean one.

Plus a lot more common issues.

Good luck... and don't stress. I picked up a 6spd E90 a month ago now from 900 miles away, sight unseen! Went through the PPI and the guy was a member here (I found the car here!). All in all I couldn't be happier. Put 1000 miles on the thing in the first 24 hours of ownership. Well... 28 given how late I rolled home. But still, love it. No concerns in my book despite having twice the miles yours has. I find it to be the best car I've ever owned. It's a beast when I want it to be, but it's also an easy cruiser when I want it to be.

Try not to stress... just enjoy the car for what it is. I am

Thanks All.

Finally made it home. Car is filthy and needs a wash and interior clean badly. Hope to show some pics when it's presentable.
