Sedan Vs. Coupe Wait time?

So I plan to go to two dealerships tomarow in an attempt to put a deposit on the M3. My dealer in town told me i would be 12th in line at MSRP. I didnt ask if it were for the coupe or sedan, or even which would be shorter.

So my question is this: Are the sedans and the coupes coming at the same time? In which case, could i hypothetically put a deposit down for the sedan instead of the coupe and recieve it sooner?

I really care less about if its a coupe vs. sedan, and more about getting this car within a year from now! Thanks for your help.

Edit: the dealer i talked to about being 12th in line said they had "no information". But could tell me that they expect to start recieving them between the 2nd and 3rd quarters of next year. Afterwhich, 12 cars would take 6 months, assuming 2 cars per month. That puts me about 1 year and 1 months out! Jesus.........

I found out from phillipek (a little birdie told him) on Bimmerfest that Coupe production should begin as early as December and the Sedan should be January.

I think the coupe should have a longer waitlist, but I'm just speculating. For example, I don't even think we have anyone for the sedan yet.

Since this will be my only car, i dont mind if its a sedan. I actually thought the e36 sedan M3's were the coolest because of their rarity. Its also cool that the car can do what it does and also haul people in the process. Thanks for your reply, if its a substantial difference in wait time when i go in tomorrow, A Sedan it is!

I don't think your 5th passenger will mind either being that the sedan can seat five compared to the coupe's four passenger capacity.

How can they have the same waitlist? BMW will be giving allocations for them seperately - its not like the dealership can choose between coupe and sedan at order time.

Why wouldn't the dealer be able to choose a coupe or sedan? Sure, the allocations will vary based on body style and dealership, but that shouldn't affect the dealerships' ability to choose to order a sedan or coupe.

Right, well SC, I suppose you could put everyone on the same waitlist as long as people understand that someone below them could get a car before them *if* that person happens to be ordering a different body style and an allocation for that body style comes up first.

But traditionally, coupe and convertible have had seperate wait lists, for example. So I don't know why they would decide now to combine sedan and coupe. I mean, technically you could combine all waitlists for all cars into a single waitlist - everything from 1 series to 2009 7 series. But it just makes more sense to keep them all seperate.
