these ?? I don't think you know what you're talking about. It has a cable and lock that goes under the chassis. You cannot steal it without damaging the cover. Besides the OP issue is about vandalism not someone trying to steal. These are two very different perpetrator profiles.

Every where I go and before I leave I'd do a quick walk around. Once day, I found a millimeter size dent! I really hate people that vandalized or damage other people's car. I know it's a much smaller damage but even this tiny dent would cost me about $100- to fix

I gotta invest in one of those monitor sensor. Does anyone know of a good brand make or model?

Agreed. While this totally sucks and the culprit is a complete jealous douchebag, one has to consider where the car was parked.

Firstly, I would never own a car of this caliber and not own a private garage. Secondly, were there many other cars parked around of equal or greater "status" (for lack of a better term). If you own a car that is far nicer or better kept than all the others around it, you are asking for vandalism. If where you park is surrounded by Bentleys and Lambos, for instance, then your lowly M3 wouldn't have gotten a second look.

Proper ownership of a nice car involves more than just buying the car. People often don't think about this.

I gave up a long time ago dwelling on how the world should be, and focused my mental energy on dealing with how the world actually is.

They're not normal first of all. Second it's just envy!

Sorry for your pain. Been there before with my 1990 brand new (at the time)325i just 4 days after picking her up. I tried the touch up paints for a while but it only pissed me off more before I had it professionally fixed.

Better days are ahead

Terribly sorry to see that. I know how you feel as I have been in your shoes before. I parked in a well lit area, completely normal, without drawing any attention to the car. Woke up and saw the same thing you saw. From the front panel, across the door and to the back panel. Cost me a lot to fix it right. Its a helpless feeling but its better you never know who did this because you will get yourself in trouble if you retaliate. Good luck. Get her fixed and forget it.

Would have been awesome if a bolt of lightning came down and hit the person at that very moment and all you would see is what ever they used to do the scratch.

Got some estimates back from couple of different body shops BMW recommended, it's not as bad as I thought, but the car would be out 3-4 days since they do have to repaint it (too deep to buff out without still noticing it).

Next step, dash cam front and back. I'm looking at FineVu CR500HD + BlackVue DR380G-HD Dual Set up from blackboxmycar. But since it'll be mostly use for catching dbags while the car is parked, it will probably need to be hot wired. Anyone have experience of doing that? Or maybe a separate power source?

Thanks for everyone's encouragement, hope it gets better from here on.

Why not spend the money renting a garage space instead?

The really unfortunate thing about key-attacks is the law surrounding them. They're barely felonies (must exceed $1000 damage to become even a 3rd degree) -- and they're not considered forcible, so even if you caught someone in the act, your options are limited. About the best you can do is beat them to a pulp while making a 'citizen's arrest' and then calling the cops. You can't simply beat them just for keying your car (without the 'arrest' part), or shoot them for that matter. Unfortunate times we live in that we aren't allowed to vigorously defend our property.

I got such a similar deep key mark on my old 335is. Friend resprayed and filled the line for me. Problem is, his paint quality was so much better than factory that the entire right side of my car ended up looking better than it did originally. Orange peel thing. Then a month later I rolled the car. Wish I hadn't just fixed that damn key mark. Car was destined for death anyway.

The act is done. Don't let it ruin your day anymore. Fix it, suck it up, move on. Probably won't happen again. If it does, you gotta move.

One doesn't need to report any beating on the perp to the cop? If you wana mess with my car, prepare to get beat down. That's fair in my book. Just sayin...

Even better if the perp carries an object that can be used as a weapon!

He brutally attacked my brass knuckles with his teeth, your honor, I was just trying to fend him off.
