Cherokee SRT8s do quarter in approximately 13 seconds...if he wanted to race probably modified. Unlike our cars, its easy and cheap,cheap,cheap... to modify. Easy for him to get to low to mid 12s...with his torque he got you off the line. Over the quarter mile would be much closer...

Our cars where made for the track. M is not really a 1/4 mile car. There are lots of cars that can take an M at the quarter. Heck I saw a video in you tube of a modded civic on the autobahn that completely blew away the M. All you can see is the lights on the civic fading away. I hate those fricken cars by the way.

Keep in mind, you wouldn't necessarily have known if this was a stock SRT8 or a modded one. Hennessey Performance, for instance, does some crazy stuff with these cars, and if folks kept it in "sleeper styling" on the exterior, there's really no way you'd be able to know.

The g37s can have a Cobb tune and that is still not going to be enough to beat an M3. Curb weight is > coupe M3 maybe < than a convertible, 328 hp, 269 lbs.ft. Let the drivers switch cars..

I have played that game with my current M3 ZCP as well as my previous 335is and E93 M3 - no Infinity G37 has ever been close enough to even get my attention.

I'm from SoCal; back in the day we were gearing cars to be completely undone in a 1/4 mile - redline in top gear and turning 12's. The fact that the M3 can hit 12.4/114 (C&D) on the way to 178 mph (Driver's Package on my car) is simply amazing.

Do you even have to bother popping that question, it's a pig SUV with a big engine. Making that torque isn't difficult with a 6,1 liter.
There is really nothing to discuss here. So what next, make a 10 liter V12 with 550 lbs.ft of torque ? who give's a sh.t seriously there is no engineering achievement in that. Sorry america, more alone is not always better, it's not enough !

Perfectly driven with perfect traction, the M3 would be faster to 60. But driving is often not perfect and traction is rarely perfect. The Jeep SRT has AWD so it is much easier to accelerate to its limits. I am not surprised at all by this street encounter.

If the race continued to 100, the M3 would have been gaining ground if not pulling even or maybe ahead. If the race continued past 100, the M3 should be pulling ahead -- you can see that in the quarter mile trap speeds.

I still prefer the M3's total package over most cars and SUV.

Personally I wouldn't give many cars the pleasure of kicking my ass down the road unless it's another M.

I was referring to the 3.9 time for 0-60 that C&D got. I don't think that's a very repeatable number on the street.

By the way, something similar but funny happened to me a few weeks ago. I was driving in S. Fl with the gf, and a black Panamera GTS pulled next to me on the left and was hitting the gas trying to get me to race (my M3 is also black). I ignored him and he moved on...

Then not 10 seconds later a black Jeep SRT8 pulled on my right and started hitting the gas trying to get me to race. I ignored him, too. I think either one could have beat me, but I wasn't about to find out. I avoid street racing, but times like this I wish I was in the GTR so I could embarrass them.

The Jeep moved on and caught up with the Panamera. By the time they lined up at a light it was a dead end and one turned left and one turned right, but it was funny to have them both try to race me almost at the same time.

I guess I should have put a "/sarcasm" after that comment. I seldom miss an opportunity to poke fun at Motor Trend. To me, they are a low brow, "Joe Six Pack" kind of a magazine with priorities that don't exactly align with mine.

Although I subscribe To Automobile and Road & Track as well, I much prefer Car & Driver to all the others. The C&D motto is Intelligence, Independence, Irreverence.

The Jeep can be faster, slower, I don't really care. I'll pass, thanks.
