Not exactly.
Converted the figures to U.S. friendly ones. The 3 cylinder puts out 134 HP/ 162 ft lbs, and the 4 cylinder 189 HP/ 205 ft lbs. Isn't that roughly the figure what the previous Cooper S put out (just now with a bigger engine)? |

Does anyone know if the 2L is an N20 variant, or if it is the first application of the new B48 I4 which shares architecture with the new B38 I3?

Thanks south. I learned recently in another discussion that these new engines have a longer stroke and smaller bore than the N20 and N55. This could be part of the reason for the reduced redline from 7000 RPM. I agree it's disappointing. Probably we can expect the new I6 to follow suit.
