replacing tires during winter..3 times so far..

Iv had my car for over a year now and so far since October, Iv replaced both rear tires because every day they would show low pressure even after putting in air. For the past week or so, my rear right tire has begun throwing low pressure warnings again. Now I know it is most likely because of the air pressure differences that happen in Winter, but none of my families other cars nor my old 328xi had this "issue." I have the tire warranty so I don't mind doing multiple replacements but is this something I should expect every winter? And should I bother changing tires or just keep putting in air and pray for spring to start already

PS-the tires are continentals for ZCP rims.

Let me get this straight, your on summer tires in winter, and change your tires every time your low pressure light comes on?

Can I ask my dealer for tires from a different brand under the warranty?

Lol I don't have space to store tires so unfortunately I can't purchase winter tires. And no, I'd just get annoyed of the low pressure sign popping up everyday and sometimes multiple times a day, even after filling in air. Also, besides the snow storm NY had last week, weather has consistently been above 40 degrees most days so it's not like it's freezing either. Putting in all those factors, replacing the tires seemed logical.

I live in your area and have had my M3 for 4 years. It's normal to get low air pressure warning once or twice a year usually in November when the weather temperature dips to 30s from 50s. But I have never gotten this warning like you describe, I think your TPMS may be damaged. You should not/can not replace tires because of this warning. That's crazy.

Sounds like an issue with the sensor? You just kept buying new tires? Wow.

Yeah I think you may be right. I mean, I have the tire warranty and I'm paying every month for it so I didn't mind getting new tires for "free" but it's deff annoying. I'll have the sensor checked out.

Yeah I'm going to get the sensor checked out cause I also didn't believe it could be normal. Thanks for the input I'll have the sensor checked. And yeah, it is crazy which is why I posted this to get some input.

It's not a sensor issue if the pressure is reduced and your tires require more air. Do you even check the pressure before adding more air? If you keep losing pressure it seems the tire shop would investigate a leak rather than replace tires, warranty or not. None of this makes any sense.

I don't check the pressure before because I can visually tell that the tire has lost air and is getting flat. Idk maybe I just have that much of bad luck that I keep getting leak issues? I'm just as lost as you.

Try filling the tires with nitrogen, either the dealer sucks at mounting a tire or your wheel is bad.

Could be a slow leak from the rim. You tire could be perfectly fine. if your rims were slightly bent( you won't be able to tell the difference from just looking at it) you could have a slow leak..quite normal if you lived in the area filled with pothole.. the guys who mount your tires should be able to tell you, cause they will know when they put the tire on.

I was gonna say maybe you have a cracked/bent wheel... Happened to me with my old 335i.. Tire wouldn't hold air; turns out the wheel was cracked.

Nitrogen is a rip IMO. Don't waste your money. It'll leak just slower. It's more than likely the rim.

I was thinking of first having them check out the rim and if its the problem, fix it and then replace the air with nitrogen after.

I got that message once last year but not this year yet. Weather has been fairly warm so not sure the temp change here has been enough to cause the pressure signal to show low. Could be something else like the sensor or leak. Did you check if you have a nail in the tire?

I know someone mention TPMS, but did you have the valve stem and rubber grommet checked? They are about $10 for each TPMS. That's typically where you will get a leak if you don't have any holes in your tire.

My winter set has been leaking - turns out there was corrosion on rim, probably due to salt. Had to have the tires removed, rim edges cleaned up and remount. There's likely nothing wrong with your tires, but you either have messed up rims due to bending or corrosion. Yes, aluminum corrodes.

I recently had my rims painted and the guy inspected my tires and we didn't see anything wrong with them. I think my rim may be damaged since theres so many potholes both near my house and school.

No I did not have them checked but Ill mention them to the dealer when I take in the car to get checked out. Thanks!

Yeah I think it is the rims. I have a lot of potholes near my house and near my school so its a possibility.
