Should I trade my M3 for a Panamera S?

have a 2011 M3 Sedan with low miles (about 15k), warranty punched 11/11. Our Porsche dealer has a 2010 Pana S with about 45k, certified, with lots of great options (full leather, Adaptive Air Suspension, MSRP probably $105-110) just lowered to about $64k.
Thinking of trading if they will give me a good deal on my M3, good move?

I personally wouldn't. Your M3 is a great car and almost as practical (smaller backseat), a year younger, and will keep more money in your bank account. No wrong way to go though...good luck!

As said above I would take the panamera over an m5. If your wanting to move to a less sporting more luxury car that's a decent choice. It won't be like having the m3 though. Personally I want to head the other way to more sporting less luxury.

I test drove one Panamera GTS. Three times better than my M3!!!

Incredible car, noise is unbelievable, and very playful around roundabouts. Plenty of drama. Steering is wonderful, a bit better than M3.

Too much money though.

Doc, no way. Stick with the M3; unless it's a GTS.

Panamera is in a completely different league size wise. Large luxo sedan vs a small sedan that feels like a sports car. I guess that's the bigger question is what type of car do you prefer, as these are so different.

It's cheaper and NA. Also looks better and I've heard that it has the best steering feel of the Panamera model range.

my thinking too. You did not mention a desire or need to go to a 4,000 lbs luxury salloon, as if going from an M3 to a Panamera was a natural progression. But to each his own motivations, personally I would not feel right trading in a 15k miles M3 for a 45,000 miles used luxury car even a Porsche. But again I might be wrong, I never drove that car.

Different cars. M3 is a total driver's car as you know. Panamera S is a lux sedan with sport options on it. It may give you a little more "status quo". Panamera GTS however, is a different story. You probably will get more $ by selling the low mile M3 to CarMax or private party. Good luck.

This car is more for my wife. She really wanted a Panamera when we bought the M3, but they were more than we wanted to spend at the time. I need to get back my Cayman from her, lol, she borrows it and won't give it back. Although the Panamera I'm looking at has more miles, the warranty is about the same. I'd be getting a car that listed for close to $110k. Figure I can make back most of the differential I'd have to pay for the trade on the back end when I sell it. Will stop by after work and see what they're willing to do on the trade. With the tax situation here, it gets complicated trying to deal with private parties or selling to carmax without buying something from them, need to research that aspect.

The Panamera has actually grown on me, although I think I could only justify getting a GTS or Turbo over the M3. A friend of mine has the GTS and loves it.

One other comment is not to give too much weight to new MSRP when looking at a used car. The Panamera was/is overpriced new and frequently discounted, not to mention the option bloat that adds to the price. The market for those cars have softened a lot and with the facelift coming out be careful what you assume for resale.

I'm a huge Porschephile that frankly really never cared for the exterior design of the Panamera. Some of the variants (GTS, Turbo, Turbo S) handle really, really well when properly equipped and I do like the interior (although I find visibility out a real challenge) but unless I really needed the extra interior room, I wouldn't do this trade.

The M3 has much better steering feel and is much more the size of a car I want. And again, while this is 100% subjective and personal, I just don't care for the way the Panamera looks.

BTW - oddly enough, the concept shooting brake Panamera which was shown last year was one of the best looking concepts I've seen in a long, long time but Porsche isn't building it. Too bad, IMO.
