The new 3/4 series are getting too big for me and losing its fun appeal. Between those and the current M3, I'd keep the current M3.

I am looking forward to what the new 2 series M car shapes up to be. If it has an actual LSD, that may be the ticket for a fun performance car with a BMW badge. Otherwise, I'll look elsewhere.

Now, I know all you are in love with your V8s and it is psychological, just like people fall love with their stocks.
It is funny because every time generations change, these topics come up and people think their generation is special. E36 was the first 6cyl, E46 first high revving, E92 first V8, F80 first turbo...etc etc. Truth is they all depreciate more or less the same. After much buying and selling I find that the sweet spot to buy previous gen M3/M5 is 2 yrs when new model rolls out, meaning the best time to buy used E9X M3 will be in 2016. That's the optimal timing to find a car that is almost fully depreciated, yet still has relatively low miles. It often coincides with LCI timing of new models.
I like the way you think.

But I really didn't want to wait 4 more years to get mine!

probably a noticeable dip in the linear depreciation line.

the e92 is a great car... but the simple answer is yes they are going to continue to depreciate and likely more so in the next 12-24 months. Esp w the introduction of the 4/m4 which will make the e9x platform appear dated, and many other cars hitting the market which some may go to in lieu of BMW (c7 corvette, new 911, cayman, etc).

So they have the f30 replace the m3. People could possibly end up referring to the e92/3 is as the last m3 coupe. Or flip side of the coin, Considering the f30 being a saloon the e90 will hold value, considering m3 might be associate as 4 door with and there were less made . If that is the case , do you believe the e90 might retain its value v.s. the e92?
Also considering that new m3,m4 are so close, that all of it might be irreverent when it comes to the variance of depreciation. Most likely being indistinguishable regardless of what e9X it is.

I disagree, I actually believe the values of the E9x will hold steady then gradually start to tick up. I truly feel that the F8x is not going to sell very well based on how CarMax already has so many new M5 already in inventory & most of the people who have driven the new F8x werenít really all that impressed stating the car feels disconnected. And while thereíre other cars coming out none of them are what the E9x M is and thatís simply the best all around car on planet earth it does everything well on top of being extremely reliable. Nevertheless the fact that itís one of a kind; itís the first & last high revving NA V8 M3 BMW will ever make itís truly a unique & special platform. Thatís why some many who have left the E9x for something new have come back to it once they realize how truly unique/special it truly is!

This is a great question. There will definitely be an initial downward reaction. However afterwards is up for grabs, may go up or down depending on the reaction from the new model. Either way, who cares. I'm assuming we all make decent money here, a car is made to be driven and replaced. Personally I had my car for half a year and I'm already a little bored...

I hope not. This will be my last M since BMW has been saturating the market with their M package. I am not that interested with the new M3/M4.

As long as the e9x m3 has low miles in the term of sales, it will hold up the value.

An E46 owner can say the exact same thing when the E9x came out, about how their car is so much more special.

Unless you own an E30 M3 (any first gen M's for a matter of fact), or a low volume model like the Z4M coupe or 1M, your car will depreciate. It's only a matter of time before these cars are available in the low 20s or even in the teens. What a small group of us E9x owners in 1 forum think is completely irrelevant.

Having said that, I don't plan on getting rid of mine any time soon.

Yes, '08's are the black sheep of the E9x family, but low mile, well maintained '09 - '11 should hold their value quite well!

Totally depends on your location, mileage and condition of the car. Most 08s are going for mid 30s right now with less than 60k miles in the San Francisco area. Occasionally you'll see one in the low 30s with 100k miles or more.

I was always under the impression the much slower E93 M3 was the "Black Sheep"

I gladly accept a slightly slower M for the glorious open-air sounds of the tremendous S65 engine!! (and I'll be adding an ESS VT2 S/C next year... slow poke!)

every vehicle depreciates. I think E9x will not depreciate as much. Just look at the prices on E36 and E46s.

There is a maintenance man in our data center that keeps buying premium brand vehicles with over 100k mileage. For some who can't afford it newer and do not want to pay the monthly, this is their ticket to a high end brand name. There is always someone that fits the bill.
