A legend in his own mind (Updated w/ 2 videos!)

A short video clip from a GT-R track buddy's car over the weekend at Auto Club Speedway of a CTS-V driver who, while running at laughable 2:17 pace, opted to run in Speed Venture's Red group (Red group runs at low 1:50's and lower).

A clear case of being a legend in his own mind.

Edit: added another video (another buddy, in a FRS, toying with a GT3).

How did he even get into the red group? Don't you have to have authorization from Speed Ventures to do so?

I've never tried to register in red, but I don't think I'm even able to. I believe the option is grayed out on their site.

In any case... epic lap time!

I'm waiting to hear on that query.

Don't feel bad I thought I was a legend until I spun put all four off and went by the turn station backwards yesterday.

This SV/ACS weekend also was a 86Fest and, apparently, Aaron was busy managing the 86Fest event and didn't police the regular HPDE event closely enough.

Yeah, my brother went on Sunday and said it was kind of a circus. He was running a Santorini Blue M3.

I was at a wedding on Saturday night and didn't think the inevitable hangover was going to be a good idea at the track.... otherwise I would have gone too.

^Nice (Santorini Blue M3). I didn't go this weekend; otherwise, would've loved to check out that gorgeous color.

I would not want to even run in that group no matter how good I was if my car is that far off the pace. That is the gap between lowest and highest groups at Texas World Speedway.

That is ridiculous! I would have said the exact same thing! I've run with cars that were close to 25 sec a lap faster than me, but that was the fastest guys in fully race prepped and caged Vipers and I do not impede there progress one bit. What a douche, that shit is dangerous

Pee ess: and that's on laps that are closer to 3:00 than 2:00, so the margin isn't as great.

Although the CTS-V is a fish out of water...I disagree with the reaction. That kind of reaction breeds impatience which is the beginning of something bad later on down the road. Now you are focused on the car in front of you and NOT focused on the track ahead of you. But that's even more reason for DE orgs to manage speed differentials.

I've spent whole sessions behind cars. I just wait until I get off the track to get pissed off.

Our advanced group yesterday had a few cup cars running 1:48s and slower guys at more like 2:05-2:10. Didn't seem bad to me but I can see and hear these guys coming and give way as well.

Agreed. The speed differential isn't that big of a deal if everyone's aware of what's going on around them. I think to throw an obvious rookie (did you see how he negotiated that curve) into deep waters is pretty dangerous. It's more the cornering speed difference that becomes dangerous. Most corners are taken fairly aggressively in advanced groups as well as passing in corners and to have to brake or make a sudden adjustment cause someone's out of their league is just irresponsible and dangerous. I mean would you throw a 120lb teenager in the ring to spar with a heavyweight boxer?
