Rusting on the centre of the brake disc

Hi All,

I had one of the wheel on my 2011 E93 removed for a refurbishment and saw rusting on the centre of the wheel hub. See the photo attached.

It this normal ? do I need to take this back to BMW as the car is under warranty, or just wired wool the rust away and grease the area?

Thanks

Jeff needs to know if rust on iron is normal.

Thank you for your intelligent contribution!

What i meant was is it normal to get rust in this area?

Should the area have been greased to prevent this etc

Have other members experienced the same thing occurring ?

Based on every car I've seen and my own - this is normal. I cleaned it with a wire brush attachment on a power tool and I cleaned it up. Then I coated that part with silicone paste. I just reapply fresh paste whenever I have the wheels off.

If it really irriated me I would consider painting it - but it doesnt.

Yep; happens to every M3. There is no paint or coating from the factory on that part. That is why wheels without center caps look like $hit. Some people paint it. Take a look at pictures of cars with TE37SL wheels. Most have the rusty hub syndrome.

It's true. Some of us have been around for too long and are now seeing new owners come in and ask all of the same old questions we discussed years ago...

Well I'm regressing myself having recently went backwards a generation with my e46 build. Still a fun forum!
