M3 GTS DCT software from Evolve

I worked with Sal from Evolve today to upgrade my DCT to the GTS software. It was a much more involved process than I thought with Sal remote controlling my laptop to reprogram the cable. He then did some tests and I eventually received the update. Programming it was just like I program the ECU software and only took a few minutes.

How is it? Well my commute is only 7.5 miles from Queens to NYC and unfortunately most of it today was sitting in traffic (can you believe it, traffic in NYC?!). You can tell 2 things right away - the delay going into reverse is no longer there and it defaults to D2 and keeps your S setting - S5 for me. Those alone are worth it. In the limited driving I did do in D2, S5 and S6 you can definitely tell the difference. The shifts in S5 and S6 feel and sound faster but it is hard to describe. The downshifting/rev matching while slowing down in the lower gears is much better and not nearly as jerky as before. I had one good S5 acceleration on the West Side Highway from 72nd Street to 79th street and it felt awesome! My 3 year old loved it too. There was a black E90M3 coming up from 59th street not too far back so he/she may have seen me and I am sure heard me. The combination of the S/C and the DCT upgrade make an amazing car just so much better.

I am taking a much longer trip to Fairfield, Connecticut tomorrow so I will get more of a chance to try different modes.

Thank you again to Sal and Evolve for getting this done for me so I can enjoy it over the weekend and I will post again tomorrow with a further update.

Congrats! The DCT upgrade is definitely a lot more animated on the downshifts in a very good way. S5 is very aggressive now as well.

Why does it default to D2? Doesn't it default to D3 normally?
Sounds good. I'm waiting on an official announcement from Evolve.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Thanks for sharing Wayne. I'm looking forward to hearing another update after your road trip.

I'm hoping Sal can set me up with a DME update and GTS DCT software next week!

My 100 mile trip today didn't give me as much insight as I wanted because it ended up being mostly just cruising on the highway. I did some tests running through the gears and I may actually start using S4 as my go-to S mode gear. I found the S5 shifts a little too abrupt. I will start playing around with this more. I did do some playing with S6 and didn't even find that too abrupt but maybe I was imagining that. I did discover that the default D2 mode didn't bother me at all - and I used to use D4 all of the time when in auto mode. More updates to come...

Wayne, I was able to flash my DCT DME last night! I think our reviews are definitely along the same wavelength
