Who in their right mind would buy a Tesla S and complain they can't track it long enough?

You'd be surprised how many people buy it thinking it performs better than the F10 M5 on and off the track. I hear it all the time from potential/current owners. Marketing.

The comparison is the battery power necessary to sustain the right foot tendencies of a high performance electric vehicle, and how we're not quite there yet, simple as that.

No shit? Wow. Are they actually tracking it though or comparing numbers for bragging rights?

Point taken. But at least the performance is finally available.

Oh, no doubt. They did it the right way (1 motor/wheel), too Completely awesome.

Hopefully one of the companies is talking to this girl...

Pahahahahahahaha! Good one.
I'm telling BMWs M division on you. Hahaha

Though this does make me think.. If Tesla pumped "engine" noise through the speakers it would probable sound like a really really old ceiling fan

Wonder who thought of it first, MB or BMW? The Mercedes pumps in noise, as well.

Well you do know the Tesla dealer in Chicago is a 10 minute walk from my house And have been in that dealership a few times and have asked and discussed exactly that and yes it is being marketed that way (I'm not buying it) and they have installed charging stations at Road America...that being said, agree with others that I would never look at this as a track car. It's a nice, tech heavy, evolution of urban transportation, but as Longboarder mentioned, the future is definitely coming up pretty quick...

Hi! I read your discussion and registered to correct the battery mistake. The Model S can go thru 170 quarter mile acceleration races before it "dies".
... At 6 cents per race...

Not sure if battery related, but here's an interesting excerpt from a model S owner who brought his car to Laguna Seca:

Quote:
I had my Model S at Laguna Seca on Sunday (May 26th) with NorCal racing. My Corvettes brakes were giving me trouble on the second day, so I drove it home and picked up the Model S (244 miles rated range). I got back to the track in time for a single session. The experience was interesting.

The car limits the power very quickly. I don't think I even made it up to the corkscrew before the limited power indicator appeared on the dash. Once that happened, the acceleration felt very sluggish.

I was really worried about brakes, coming from a Corvette Z06 which is lighter, has huge tires and big brakes. I was pleasantly surprised at the stopping power of the brakes, although I really couldn't get the car up to speed on the straight before turn 2 because of the limited power output.

I was very impressed with the cornering. I know it's a heavy car but it was a blast to go around 4 with the wheels squealing. In turn 9 on one lap the stability control or something kicked in and the car felt really weird.

I think I did three laps before pulling off. As soon as we got in to the paddock the limited power indicator went away and my wife wanted to go back out. It was an experience I'll never forget and I'm glad I got a chance to see what the brakes can do and how well the car can corner. I don't think I'll be taking it to the track again, but I do look forward to the day when I can drive an all electric vehicle on the track. There's nothing as disappointing at Laguna Seca as blowing sound with a stock exhaust. Well, maybe having the power output severely limited...

There are a lot of Teslas in Seattle. I think they're pretty incredible cars but I'm surprised I've seen so many here considering they're $70-100k. It's not a car for me though.

Crazy power, light weight, or high mileage, pick any 2. Having said that, the future is indeed here. Battery powered cars are a good way to wean us off our dependencies on oil. Electricity generated at the power station is far more efficient than that combustion engine under the hood. Less demand for oil would prob give us more peace in the middle east, and consequently, global peace or something close to it. Adoption would increase exponentially once they crack the storage limitation on current battery technology.

A guy with a Tesla was sitting in our local pub waiting for a tow truck. Included when he bought the car if the battery dies. 35 miles uphill from Palm Springs and a 3000 foot ascent killed it.

Yesterday I saw solar company building a new one level garage with panels on the entire roof for the use as a source to charge electric vehicles. Pretty cool!
