Back to m-power (Monster unit e90 m3)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey.

Just alittle thread on my second e9x m3, its nothing special compared to the cars on here but incase anyone's bored and interested on how we do it in the uk

After selling my e92 m3 and Exige S i bought myself a 997.2 *GT3

If your wondering why its sold, its because I have now got married and just had my first baby boy.*
Marriage does change everything, buying parts isn't just a click away now, its clicking and not letting her know how much it is.*

Well I was looking for a 4 door family wagon and decided m3 was the only car that would be up to the job. *I was trying to wait for the new m3 but patience ran dry and the fact it was twice the price made the decision for me, E90m3 was the car.

I forgot how good it was, maybe due to mileage or because I went DCT this time, it's amazing, love it to bits.
No EDC *either as hoping to get some decent coilovers but due to my new wheels, it's not as easy as I thought, the ones I've been looking at have longer springs or helper springs causing them to rub on the inside of the wheel so finding it hard to decide, especially when they cost a few grand so only want to buy right and only once.*
I originally would have said *EDC is a must but I actually really like these struts, feel firm and useable on track *yet comfortable enough for daily duties.*Also never went for such a high spec as I wanted it to be abit lighter due to future plans( stupid possibly but at the time it made sense) it does feel a better car than before though. I keep thinking its because it's the weight saving *
Plus after 6 months looking I probably just wanted to settle with a low mileage car and the right colour.

Anyways here's the car and things I've done so far.

E90m3*
Had the wheels paints and grill from BMW

First thing was get the new braided lines and fluid changed.
Gut the backbox and fit my straight pipes but they had to come straight off, this time due to the material ( pretty sure) it was silly loud.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ps0aedd774.mp4

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...ps0aedd774.mp4

My old one, it was like stock till heavy throttle unlike the above , even on heavy throttle it was just not as loud and cabin was hardly noticeable.

Bought some parts months ago as I was 80% on getting one, had a few other things but never got a picture of them. Not going to use the sleeves anymore due to no EDC.

Got a puncture again with the OEM 19s so decided to get the 18s on the car*

Thanks to these guys for fitting and balancing the wheels*

Night shift so my wife wouldn't notice*

I know not all will like the massive tyre text but I loved it

They didn't stay on very long due to the paint I used

BMC that I bought years ago for my e92 m3 but never used

Next mods are pagid pads so it's ready for my track night at my local track.

Possibly get my de-cat and evolve stage2 but unsure how to hide the trip from my wife.

Also Been pricing some parts up , original plan was coilovers but can't decide on which ones so might get some exterior stuff instead, *however even that I can't decide right away, marriage does change you.

Hopefully that didn't bore you to much and cheers for looking of you got this far

Always love to read the stories about the guys who leave for other cars and then make their way back into an M3. It's truly unbeatable for a family man.

Looking great so far - welcome back!

My wife has her eye on the GT3 now...we have the E90 M3 for her and just bought it with a few mods in the garage and now she changes her mind...I'll show her your thread to convince her to stick with the car!

That works until your wife sits you down to have a broader conversation to discuss your internet browser history.

Stop hiding stuff from her or you might end up in an FR-S. Great rides!

I think a lot of us are interested why you and the original poster left your 997 GT3's for E9x M3's as a lot of us see the GT3 as the 997 GT3's as a logical choice for next car.

Thanks

The gt3 is amazing and stock it's miles away from a m3 but I really needed a bigger car or I would have kepted it no questions.

The m3 is great and with good chassis mods and abit of a weight loss it would be as fast round a track, however I think alittle would be down to the m3 being a lot easy to drive on the limit.

The gt3 just gets better and better the more you drive it, it was a school day Everytime

If you don't need more than 2 seats and can afford a gt3, get one is all I can say

I sold the GT3 to free up some equity in order to invest in another business. At the same time, my wife was expecting our first child so it was logical to get rid of it. My wife now drives a cayenne instead of the C63 and I drive the e92 which is perfect for the little ones. Sometimes I do wish for 2 extra doors

If only our budget allowed me to keep three cars in the garage.....sigh

Very nice thread. I love the p-car but family is first! I hide parts from my wife too lol. I would suggest Ohlin coil overs, they have a oem quality feel and handle very well. It's def the right choice IMO for this car. You don't lose any of that tight m3 factory feeling.

I'm loving that exhaust note from the clip you provided. How was the GT3 (my dream car)?

I've looked at them too but I think am don't to ohlins or tc-klines at the moment. My brother as ohlins and they do feel great.

did see all three clips? What did you think about the really loud tunnel one?

The gt3 is amazing, from factory it almost needs nothing, just geo and suspension tweaks and it's ready for pretty much anything.
