most of the issues can be sorted out with a tune, that includes the obnoxious cold start
the volume is perfect for me, however i do hope that the sound in higher rpm would sound meaner instead of high pitched
there IS drone at around 2k rpm, its just when you drive in manual you tend to get out of that rpm range and not notice it

Akrapovic is a great exhaust system. Probably the most satisfying modification on my car. Looks/sound great and significant weight saving over the stock exhaust. With the Delete-R, I have not had any issues with the CEL. My butt-dyno also have not felt this dip in power around 3k RPM. Even if there are actual dyno charts that show this, I could care less because the engine stays up in the higher RPMs at the track which is the only place that matters.

Believe me I can relate. Only difference is my modding addiction took over a 2005 E55, 2010 C63 and now a 2012 CLS63. Definitely need rehab!

I love mine. Best mod in my car. Sounds great (at least to me), looks awesome and I don't complain about the weight savings. Not sure if the ESS' Akra tune deals with the torque dip or not, but at that rpm range I could not care less.

The e9x CF tips are such poor quality compared to their CF tips on their other applications (including the new M5) - its just a non-starter for me. When I look at the e9x CF tips, I just can't help but think "why couldn't they make these tips looks as good as their other ones?"

Torque dip/loss at low RPMs occurs even among aftermarket cat-back only for the M3. Shows you how well the original exhaust was designed (as well as the MPE which shows no such dip in the low RPM range), considering all the restrictions (cats/emissions, noise, etc). As far as I'm aware, the respected tuners on here e.g. ESS, BPM, Evolve have all dealt with this dip pretty well from the dyno plots I've seen, but best to speak to them directly.

I didn't buy the Akra because I am not fond of the "tinny" sound you get from Titanium. I love the look, the weight, etc. The sound was the issue for me.

Those M5 CF tips look sick! But still, I like mine, still not a deal breaker for me.

Esquire: good point on Akra's M3 CF tips. I have CF tips and do wonder why Arka did it that way. Having said that, I just love the look of CF tips.

No regrets with Akra exhaust. Only think I wish is that Akra would offer wireless kit for BMW similar to the one they have for Audi.

Running Akra on mine and no regrets...the price is a hit, but the quality of the exhaust is unmatchable...its a work of freaking art!

The original tuning was designed with the large 0.5 Bar back pressure from the primary cats in mind too.
Once you make such a drastic change you need to make changes to the valve overlap to keep the gas speed up across the cylinder head.
Most people do not notice this anyway as they do not labour the engine at such low rpm's when trying to go quick. Hence the lack of people even noticing it.
We all know the S65's power band is not really at it's best under 3000rpm anyway in NA form.

Akra had to make different carbon tips
because the exhaust temps are a lot higher. That's why there was never a carbon tip at the start

I would buy the Akra all over again 110%. I'm local and happy to meet up w/ you to let you ride along or drive my car (I've got the full Evo) in case you're having any doubts about your order. The only other systems I considered were the full Dinan setup or MPE with test pipes. They all have their own distinctive notes, but sound and build quality won me over. It's all personal preference obviously.

You'll never notice the torque dip with a tune under 99% of conditions FWIW.

Personally I'm a bigger fan of the regular polished tip. Putting CF on an exhaust pipe is weird to me. Just as I think CF kidney grilles are weird too.

In terms of fit & finish, probably one of the best exhausts out there. My problem with it? More than I could afford

That would be great! If I could get a first hand experience (and just ride along) with the Akra exhaust, that would fantastic. I live downtown next to PetCo Park but could meet you anywhere.

Very well known issue.

It can be tuned out in various ways. We use changes in the VANOS tuning.
Is this because of the Akra slip on, Akra mid-pipe or both (the Evolution exhaust)?
