2011.75 BMW M3 E90  [5.00]
Ive said it a hundred times, if the M3 came in an E91, thats what I would be driving right now... BMW is working on it. The M4 Grand Coupe Touring version... lol!

If the guy went through the trouble of having DCT vs 6MT, I would not be surprised if the thing has M suspension and diff. Would be nice to know for sure though.

And converting an E90 to an E91 is just a silly idea man. Way more work (and it won't be as good as factory, I don't care what anyone says), to end up with the same idea.

Here's mine, full EVERYTHING M3 conversion(same as the white one).
Apart from mods my car is like it came from the BMW factory in Germany. But better, KW V3 suspension, 380mm Brembo's all round, bmw performance seats, running the latest software, combox audio/video playback, dab radio. The list goes on.

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=492494

The only thing good about converting an E90 into an E91 is that it would say M3 Estate/Wagon on the logbook/pink slip, you can change body shape(in uk) by filling in body change section and it will come back estate/wagon..

Another masterful E91 M build. Much respect.

But please do not remove the S65 in favor of an S63. If you need more power add forced induction or a stroker. You'll spend just as much money converting to an S63 as you would on either of those, and probably more by the time you figure out the ECU and getting the transmission to handle the torque.

I think he should say "BMW, people in America need wagons!!!" Cuz it is clearly offered elsewhere. But then BMW would say Americans hate wagons! A really great build this tho!

The reality is that it would not sell in high enough numbers in the US to turn a profit.

But I've never understood BMW's resistance to selling an M3 touring in other markets, especially Germany. Audi and Mercedes have been selling performance wagons in this segment (as well as the larger segment) around the world for generations.

Yes, it CAN haul much more than an other e9x's. But there's NO reason you should need OR want an s65 to do odds and ends. The beauty of the e9x is that it CAN serve as a DD in a pinch.

Perhaps a better analogy..
You CAN wear a 4000$ custom tailored 3 piece suit to the gym, but why not just wear track pants and a tshirt....?

Please just go buy a 2nd hoopdie (90's era jeep or something) to do these tasks.

In a pinch, eh? I'm not convinced that you yourself even believe that people are using these cars mostly "in a pinch".

It's not working for me.

An M3 can do anything a 318d can except the fuel efficiency, and that part boils down to operating costs which are in any case a fractional addition to the costs of buying the performance car instead of the entry level model to begin with.

At the gym, no amount of extra investment in the suit will allow it to be even remotely as functional as typical workout clothes. The suit simply cannot be used to workout in by any reasonable measure.

It's a poor idea. Maintenance, storage, upkeep, logistics and other reasons make this a nonstarter.

Let me flip it around for you. So are you saying that the M3 is an all out sports car? Because if you wanted a pure sports/track car, then you should really be looking at a Cayman, Elise, ect.... there are far better cars that can do that particular job better. If you are looking for track pants and a T-shirt, there's better choices than the M3. See where I'm going with that?

That's the beauty of M3's though. It can do everything. And not in a pinch. All the time. Nothing like going to pick up dog food from Petsmart and scaring the dogs while driving away at the same time.

I agree, but we're obviously in the minority here. Ultimately, what someone else does with their money is their business. I don't see much sense in a mod like this (except to destroy the value and aesthetics of the car), but it's not my car.

If this is H's car (which is looks like along with the username) from Birmingham UK then;

At my former workplace (BMW Specialist Indy), we built a M3 estate and worked with H's. Our builds were number 2 & 3 (H's) in the country if memory serves me correctly.

H's was formally a 335i. Body panels first, along with the exterior trim, exhaust etc. I knew he was in the process of swapping with a M3 engine, he facelifted the front end, but lost contact with him. Since then I'm sure I've seen his car in Estoril Blue.

The other M3 touring was built from a 335i again. That had the full engine, wiring harness, suspension, running gear, interior, new CIC iDrive - the complete lot.

H; if you're reading this then drop me a PM (no longer at BM) - Simon (Jags place)

I would take my SUV X5 over a low to the ground touring M3 car any day of the week. First of all the touring car M3 RWD car would suck ass in the snow and I wouldn't even drive it here in the Maine or Alaska Winters. It is too much of a "Pussy" car for this type of Winter where the X5 AWD with all snow or all rain tires shines plus its high and you can plow over things where my M3 inches or crawls over things and is horrible in the snow/ice. To me its a "fad" and folks like it because we can't get it here in the US. That's why we don't see it in the US because it would have epic fail sales rates just like an E89 Z4MC. Upper BMW management said it would not sell just like something like this, even though we all said we would buy one on the forums.

There would be absolutely no reason for me to own one. I have an SUV for snow/ice duty and an E92 M3 for the streets and dry weather. No room for a RWD hatchback sedan.
Two separate issues as far as I'm concerned. One is the functionality of an SUV vs. Wagon from a cargo perspective. A wagon can hold as much as an SUV (comparing apples to apples - 3-series to X3 and 5-series to X5) with the added benefit of the performance of a car. SUV's by default are a compromise in performance due to their weight and high center of gravity.

Now as far as handling snow.... That is a RWD vs. AWD discussion. A rear wheel drive car is certainly not going to handle the snow as well as any all wheel drive vehicle (assuming the tires are the same). The ground clearance an SUV provides is not at all necessary. An M3 wagon at stock ride-height with all-wheel drive would be fantastic in the snow. Even better than an SUV because it's lighter, stops quicker, and changes direction quicker. How do I know? I spent my entire life in MN and WI with tons of snow. I have had Audi sedans and wagons plus SUV's. I never once had an issue in snow with an all-wheel drive sedan or wagon. Albeit they were not slammed like my M3 (and yours). The SUV ground clearance is really only necessary off-road. Which is the biggest joke.... 99% of the SUV's on the road will NEVER go off-road during their entire existence. SUV's are far more of an illogical fad invented by Americans who think wagons aren't cool. As you know, wagons sell far better than SUV's in other parts of the world. My theory is that Americans love for SUV's started along with the bigger is better concept we see in houses, and food. We Americans like everything over sized... which has resulted in the huge weight problem we have here. I digress...

Not sure that would make a difference. You can put a jet engine in a minivan, but you're still a tool for driving one. For what it's worth, my female coworkers are unanimous that wagons are indeed for *******.
