VF vs M24 Oil Cooler Comparison??

I see ECS has a new VF Engineering oil cooler. It is half the cost of the M24 oil cooler. Anybody have real data on the difference? True heat transfer comparison data.

I dont think that data exists. Even for the M24 cooler which has been around a while.

I have heard a few people make claims that the M24 cooler will provide real time (on track) cooler oil temps. I found that not to be the case when compared to stock. What I did notice is that the oil temps would drop signficantly quicker during my cool down laps.

The M24 oil cooler is much bigger than stock. I think I have some pics in my build thread. The size difference presented me with some problems when fitting my GT4 front lip. I was able to make everything fit, just a very tight fit. I am picky about stuff like that though.

I actually went back to stock with the oil cooler and kept the M24 radiator which I think really helps on my non-intercooled SC setup.

Also, ESS and CSF are coming out with, or have already released, oil cooler options. I belive CSF directly addressed the fitment issues when they designed their larger cooler.

Funny thing is that is easy to build a test bench system to prove whether the cooler is better. Every one of them could be tested for temperature drop. It is basic engineering heat transfer. Q=UAdT

Any info on those oil coolers?
I'm also surprised no one's really address the power steering cooling.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

M24 makes a power steering augment cooler if I am not mistaken. Upgrading the power steering system is very invasive. I think the 3d Design augment reservoir is an awesome solution... as well as the GT4 solution.

There are threads on the CSF cooler. Not sure about ESS.

I can tell you that even with the GT4 cooler, mine will blow some fluid out on 100F days. I will add the KAIV catch pot setup even with my cooler.

I only saw radiator, oil cooler and DCT cooler from M24. Never saw anything for power steering.

Agreed - that has been my experience as well.

Ahhh I confused it with the M24 DCT cooler!!! my bad!

I stopped have PS fluid leak after installing this thing...

^ they think highly of that piece. Pretty and good design, but $685?? That is a pair of rear tires for the Porsche.

Yeah its expensive. But I hate spraying PS fluid in my engine bay... especially at the track where it ends up turning into a weird sandy muddy clump of stuff that gets on everything. I am willing to pay a little more for something that works. Besides, after going big on a lot of things that are purely cosmetic, I am not going to skimp on something that is actually functional...and again, works.

I have the "kaiv" power steering catch can but plan to install the billet PS reservoir from All German Auto (AGA):

https://www.agacoolantpipe.com/produ...servoir-angled

I believe the additional fluid capacity should result in lower temps and it can be combined with the "kaiv" catch can to offer protection from overflow. (Contrary to their claims, I'm not sure billet construction will reduce temps.)

I did seem to recall less overflow when I ran an underdrive pulley, but any reduction in temps to PS fluid from the pulley probably mean equally higher oil and water temps.

My plans for a total track-oriented approach to cooling would probably be:

1) M24 radiator
2) Gintani DCT pan
3) AGA power steering reservoir
4) Oil cooler (?)

^ the AGA website does not show an E9x application. Do you have other information.

Anyone has experience with M24 DCT oil cooler and their radiator? Do they prevent DCT and coolant from ovearheating at the track?

Did you look at it? It fits, there's only straight/angled.

I have the M24 Radiator. I have never had my coolant overheat at the track and I have tracked in 115+ temps in the CA desert.

This is correct. The angled one fits the E9x M3. I called AGA to confirm and another member on here has one on his car.

Do you have to flush ps fluid when replacing this reservoir? Does it hold more fluid than the stock one? Sounds like a good idea, especially if it lowers fluid temps.

Too bad 3D no longer makes them. It was only 45,000 yen MSRP in Japan which is about $430. Looks like IND bought the last ones and is making quite the massive profit off of them.

I'd probably be a good idea to do a flush with the install. "Fortunately" for me, I have a PS leak that the dealer is going to warranty, so they are going to install this at the same time for free. So $300 installed.

It does hold significantly more fluid than the OEM one, but I can't remember the exact measure.

I've said it before it's pretty simple design. Maybe some one with a machine shop can make some for the rest of us. Maybe we can get one for a sample/template.
