Tilting at Windmills

Or campus buildings, as the case may be.

Old Main (no T/S).

Tilt for DoF.

Little bit of shift for perspective (I need work here).

Three portrait orientation shots with landscape shift for 40 megapixel image.

800x640 100% crop from the center of the image above.

Here's a link to the full size (40MP, 20MB) image. Let it load and then pan around. Awesome detail. Can't wait to try some real landscapes with it.

Are you applying correction via Digital Lens Optimization in Raw conversion?

No, I've been told you don't apply any auto lens corrections if you've tilted or shifted. On the mega-image above, I did use Transform to tug the very edges of the building a little straighter.

I hadn't thought of that. It would complicate matters. With DxO, you can turn off automatic geometric corrections and leave on CA, sharpness, vignetting, etc. Then again, with the huge image circle, those are not big issues.

I have been doing that. Although like you say, not a lot of CA or vignetting if you stay away from the very edges of the image circle.

Nice job Mark! How difficult is it to learn and shoot with that lens?

Also, how and what did you use to stitch the photos together for that last shot?

Pretty easy, actually I downloaded an ebook about using the lens. It was a tad overpriced, I think, but it did have lots of good and easy to understand directions.

The last image went together in Photoshop just by choosing the three raw files and doing a merge. Piece-o'-cake. Then I tugged at the corners of the image a bit to tweak the edges of the building straight.
