I could deal with the bad fuel economy more if they would put a bigger tank in. Gets annoying having to fill up more than once a week. Stupid low fuel light comes on at 1/4 tank.

I'm cool with 16mpg, usually 12 - 14 mpg

The OBC's mpg is never correct...

Granted I've only had mine for a week, but I'm getting pretty consistently about 18-19mpg. Even yesterday when I did a three hour tour tearing down country roads south of St. Louis with the STLBMWCCA I still got about 17-18 during that drive.

On my drive from Washington DC to St. Louis in the car last week I was averaging 22mpg... that's calculated, not OBC.

I drove my car from Atlanta to Chicago and averaged just shy of 21mpg. That was with an average speed of around 80mph, at least 95% highway, and a few triple digit runs. My usual driving habits involve little highway (probably an 80/20 mix) and I now average around 14-15mpg.

I too heard all the horror stories relating to fuel economy, but I recently drove my E92 from OKC to Traverse City, MI, then on to Ann Arbor to watch the UM/ND game and back to OKC and averaged 23.4 MPG...very pleasantly surprised! That's what we averaged in my wife's obnoxiously slow Nissan Juke when we took that on a trip.

Unless you do a lot of uninterrupted highway driving I don't understand how some of you are getting the 18+mpg you claim. Maybe it's just the traffic in sofla that never let's me get above 16.

Daily 111 mile round trip commute with 90% highway driving at 70+ mph, get 19.1 mpg all day (there maybe some occasional acts of spirited acceleration). The in dash read out is generous by 2 mpg.

12.4 over the last 1000 miles about 80/20 city/highway.

I'm gonna guess my city driving is in the 8-10 range and my highway is in the 13-14 range.

I used to get 16, then I realized that I didn't care about gas, now I drive it like I stole it.

I had mine coded so it came on at 1/8 instead of 1/4. Great mod lol.

That's a possibility... it's also possibly got a lot to do with heat, air density and so on. Different parts of the country you'll get markedly different results. There's also differences in fuel additives and so on, and of course driving style. Also, hills or lack thereof

I am also of the opinion that it is possible to get better gas mileage with the 6MT than the DCT... a theory that was borne out at least with a pair of 135i's... I got better gas mileage with the 6MT than the DCT, though only by about 5-10%... not markedly better. The M3 is almost certainly the same.

I am fortunate in that I live close to two of the major highways around St. Louis county, so I don't drive "city" for more than 2 miles in either direction before I get on a highway to go... just about everywhere. That includes to work. Yes, I drive my car almost constantly in MDM (full power, hard suspension etc) because I like it... but in truth most of my drive is 6th gear, 55-65mph with very little change. It's also relatively flat.

Yea down here even highway driving turns into "city" driving due to the amount of traffic.

This car gets worse MPG than a Range Rover Supercharged or Cayenne Turbo. I'm averaging 9.7 MPG.

you can never get above 15~16mpg on city driving
20+ is easily possible on highway driving.

On my daily driving (~40% highway, 60% city) I get about 14~15mpg
On a long trip (500mile+ on highway), I get about 21~22.5 mpg
