Mode Carbon just started offering their V1 in urethane.

Not silly at all, Urethane is similar to Fibre Reinforced Plastic (or FRP) but offers much more flexibility. FRP is more flexible than fiberglass, but may still crack if hit hard enough. Here is a link to the FRP Mode lip W/// was talking about:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=970548

Quote:
Our Fibre Reinforced Plastic material is designed to handle abuse from scrapes, bumps, or anything else a hostile driving condition may throw at you, without needing immediate repair or replacement. Our FRP material is intended to be a more affordable alternative to carbon fibre, not to detract from the stunning aesthetic value and structural integrity that carbon fibre adds to any automotive application. Retained is the fitment and quality that you come to expect from any Mode Carbon product.
If you feel like waiting, Challenge is also going to be producing their GT front Spoiler in Urethane:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=951616

Quote:
We have been looking at out projects for 2014 and one that we are looking to get started in the next month is a urethane front spoiler for the E9X M3. There really aren't any out there except for a few random ebay knock offs of random hamann ones usually from what I see.

We are asking the M3 post members here to see who would be interested in our GT carbon front lip, but in urethane. We realize our lip is slightly on the aggressive side so the urethane construction would allow this lip to take a lot more bumps and bruises on the road for those that don't need or want the carbon finish.

Pricing would be around the $495-$595 range likely and would come painted in satin black ready to install. As with our other parts, this too will be made in the USA.

It's not urethane. It's advertised as FRP. Totally different

OP. The only polyurethane lips seem to be on eBay. I'm running a poly 3d design lip from eBay. Fits great, was cheap and will last longer than any carbon or FRP lip. Look at my pics in gallery.

Whoops, thanks for the correction. OP, regardless of what material it is, it's cheaper than CF and a good option.

can you speak from experience, or are you uninformed like everyone else.

OP is looking for something more along the lines of a poly lip.

Ebay poly lips are a fraction of the price and from my 1st hand experience with lips/splitters I have been very satisfied. How many of these companies do you think are making lips in the good ole US of A???

OP take everything you read w/ a grain of salt.

I have also seen poly 3d lips and poly Vorsteiner reps on Ebay.

Mine did require a little prep work prior to painting, but what new poly/plastic bumper/lip does not? It was very minor and IMO looks great considering how much money I have in it. My car is very low and I live in an area w/ lots of speed bumps so for me, the peace of mind is nice knowing I won't break the lip.

It gets very annoying to have to drive slow everywhere.

Also, the first day I had it mounted, I hit a large tire carcass that was flipped up on the parkway and it didn't do any damage but a small chip in the paint. Had this been FRP or Carbon it no doubt would've shattered.

what kind of FRP are you guys using? Any chance to get a pic or vid from you guys to show how much flex the lips have?? That would go a long way in marketing these new FRP lips IMO.

polyurethane is what your front bumper is made of. You can push/pull/bend/twist it w/ out fear of the material breaking or cracking due to its' properties.

It's very hit or miss. Glad you got parts that fit great, but here was an eBay splitter I purchased brand new. The contour did not fit the bumper and you can see in the pic that the 3M tape started coming apart.

Like an idiot, I bought a second set after the first set got destroyed. More gaps if you look closely enough. The edge was also completely wrong on the LHS but fine on the RHS:

Also bought a CF spoiler from a vendor here that more or less sells eBay items. The fit was such sht it was borderline hilarious. When the spoiler was laid flat in the center, the sides were up from the trunk around 5mm.

So yes, I'm speaking from experience and only buy things that I know will fit. I tend to just buy nice parts as they come for sale used. Really not that much more expensive than a new eBay part anyway.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I know it's only pics but the first one doesn't look too bad other than the gap on the left side.

You must remember that we are comparing poly to CF and if you get a crappy fitting CF part you're out of luck. Poly is much more forgiving as it's flexible and even if you get something a little off, a little heat can reshape it. Most vendors will tell you to leave a poly part in the sun for a while if there's a slight fitment issue and the sun will let it relax and then it will conform to the bumper. A hair dryer and heat gun work just as well. I know that some of the ebay splitters are not OEM shaped also and are a little off (see thread furhter down re: splitters for pics).

Maybe it is a little bit of a gamble on certain things, but I still saved over $500 from the closest rep from vendors from what I could see. I believe most of these reps are from overseas. (see Alibaba for the manufacturing info). Sometimes $$ is worth a little bit of a gamble in my book. But as you mentioned individual results may vary.

So any prospective buyer should know that going into a purchase; however, I was willing to throw the lip out if it was garbage and chalk it up as a loss.
