Did I read past the part about the 335i lap times? Or was that part/article not scanned?

um. Try 4.8. As most of us already know- BMW is very conservative with their numbers. They reported a 0-60 of 4.8 for the E92 M3. You believe that too?

I just don't get the fandom surrounding the RS4.

Don't get me wrong, it's a very nice car. (I test drove two of them) But the drooling is too much. I wasn't blown away like some people seem to be. I mean come on, it's a pig. 4000lbs., AWD, SEDAN. That's not my cup of tea.

^ I have said it before and I will say it again.. its because everyone is impressed that Audi finally did something right. But you are correct, its still not that great at 4000lbs and really no better performance than the M3 despite costing more and actually being a class above the S4. Keep in mind that for years the S4 was the real competition.

I was looking for that as well. Are you sure you want to trade in your 335? I live above 5500 feet, so I might be an idiot if I buy the the M3 over the 335.

Yeah, seems like the 335 is the better choice for you. What you were "afraid" of some months ago here, turned out to be true.
So you have to decide on you own if you're willing to pay that more without getting more power...

Not trading in the 335i. It will be the E46 M3 that gets traded. Alternatively, I will keep it since I think its worth about 10 bucks now. Anyway, the car will be either a 135i, a second 335i, or an M3. Tiny chance for S4 or G37 too I suppose.

I live pretty near sea level so the M3 should be putting up 0-60 in under 5 sec, just like the 335i.

Thanks for the reply South,
I am struggling with this. Ever since the E36 M3 saloon hit our shores, I have been dreaming and saving in hopes of one day in the distant future I could actually own a new saloon version of the M3. Then a year or two ago rumors of a likely E90 M3. In comparing the M3 to the 335, it is not so much the horsepower loss at elevation that concerns me as it is the mass off the M3 and the reported worse steering feel than a 335. Of course, price to performance and operating costs are a major factor. That is one reason why I hoped M could pull off a miracle and offer new generation DFI with the 4 litre. The CD article on track times of the 335 w/o LSD besting the RS4 opened my eyes again to how amazing the 335 is. And finally, I owe you a beer or do you me now? And the only way that is likely to happen is getting my car via ED. BMW offers amazing discounts for ED, but obviously they don't offer a discount on the Ms. That being said, I have always wanted an M. Your translation skills are amazing. I lived in Finland for sometime so I can appreciate one who speaks multiple languages.

I am Jealous. For me, the two cars I would like in my garage are a 335D and a Cayman S. Since the 335D is not yet an option in the States. I was hoping the M3 would make a good compromise. Maybe the 335 will simply have to be the best compromise. Another option is to buy a facelifted Cayman S and keep the cars I have. I have never taken out a car loan, traded or leased. I keep my cars for the long term. Never been able to stomach a depreciation hit.

I guess the 335i is an option many potential M3 buyers at least are considering. It's a great car, but for me it's not special enough. I would still want an M3 although the 335i is more than enough for street use performance and handling wise. If I understand your post correctly you're in a similar situation: All you want is an M3 because of its legend and by owning one you can get part of this legend yourself (somewhat elevated, but you get the point). If I'm right here, you have to go this way (or wait for the next generation, but I doubt the M3 is evolving in the way you wish).
Thanks for the flattery about the language, I owe you a beer, but so do you...

Best regards, south

I think they screwed up the text of the article.. They state that the M3 is faster in a straight line but the numbers indicate the RS4 is faster..

Faster 1/4mi and faster to 60... what gives?

At least they got to the heart of the matter which most magazines have been echoing: To say that one is simply better than the other is moronic. Well.. that plus the fact that the new M3 steering sucks

Can't wait to see how the RS4 v M3 sedan comparos go.. thats more relevant to my situation (need sedan)

True.. but it all translates into an amazing car that all of the worlds automotive media has been drooling over for some time now. It also translates into the fastest 4-door nurburgring times recorded - a record still safe until the M3 sedan surfaces. Its a pig, its AWD, but its so well hidden from you like magic. Just an amazing car.

Humm....

If they mean Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford from the early 90's, I would agree. Now they are 3 and 4 respectively.

So is a better launch with AWD the reason the RS4 is quicker in a straight line?? Pretty interesting.

I still feel a Cindy/Claudia combination would be greater than the sum of its parts.

The BMW would have won if the steering wheel was on the right side.
