Evolve S/C self-install with pictures

The install was a success! Thank you most to my friend Ross who spent the last 36 hours (the install took about 23 hours but I was there longer) with me installing this at his house. Thank you also to Sal and Rizwan who were on call (and text) all weekend to answer our many questions.

The hardest part was driving the 60 miles under 3,000 RPM but I drove home and then did a lap of Manhattan with my dad. After that on my first real test it accelerated nicely but not neck-snapping. I dropped my dad off and showed him everything and then I went out by myself. I think it adapted or something because now it is hold-on, I can't believe how fast this is accelerating fast! I was just going between 79th street and 96th street on the West Side highway and it just insane. I was curious when I got back to 79th Street and put in in S6 with DSC off and started moving and then floored it and it was at redline in an instant - I didn't have time to even think about it. When I got back to my garage I checked for leaks and fluid levels and everything was perfect.

All in all it was really a lot of work but I couldn't be happier with it.

I took many install pictures to help the Evolve guys update the instructions but admittedly the pictures started trailing off as the car was going back together and we just wanted to finish.

Here are some and I have lots more detailed ones if anyone is interested:

Everything lined up and ready to go:

Before we get started:

Everything coming apart:

Look ma, no plenum:

Uh, oh, what did I get myself into:

Bracket and pullies mounted:

Front clip before:

Front clip after it met the jigsaw:

Progress:

More progress:

Now it is starting to look like a car again:

Ta-Da:

I didn't take a good picture at the end because I was tired and wanted to go home so I will take one tomorrow.

Good stuff Wayne, for me it's always rewarding to do your own install, you get to know the car, the components much more and if anything needs to be serviced or replaced you know what to look for and you can do it yourself if need be. When you add this kind of power, you should really monitor the car more, doing a self install, while not a necessity, is a good way to start. Best of luck!

I have now fully read through the not-quite-finished instructions and I am a lot less nervous than before. There are many bolts to be removed and put back on but nothing looks terribly difficult. I have a lift, about every tool imaginable and some smart people working with me plus the Evolve guys available for questions so we should be fine. I think the biggest delay will be from waiting for the car to cool down after I drive it there from NYC.

Famous last words...

I can't see why there would be. My friends and I are very good at this and probably do things better than most dealers because we care about the finished product. When BMW of Manhattan fixed a leak in my rear main seal they left off 3 screws that I know of - and those were the easy ones to spot. Granted 2 of the 3 were minor but why should there be any missing?

I have never installed a supercharger on an M3 but I have changed engines, camshafts, transmissions, clutches, suspensions, differentials and more in other BMW's and other cars so I am not a novice at this.
