Review: Supersprint F1 Race Full Exhaust for E90/E92 M3

I received a full Supersprint exhaust a few months ago and wanted to really run the system for a good time before I post a review. I also received an updated ESS software that I run with this system that I'll like to review. I previously had a custom valvetronic exhaust on the car and wanted something just a tad more aggressive. For the exhaust system, I wanted something a bit different, more unique, something outside of the typical exhaust systems found on most M3s so I contacted SuperSprint to see what they had to offer.

They gave me several options between catted or catless front pipes, catless or resonated midsection and Sport, Race or F1 Race mufflers. Of course I went with F1 Race mufflers and decided to do catted in order to avoid intoxicating my wife and hearing about it for 3 weeks straight

Supersprint is not new to the game. They have been in the market for several decades, since before I was born, manufacturing exhaust systems primarily for race and exotic applications. Since I wanted to try different options I decided to try their new F1 Race system first with catted front pipes and resonated mid-section, and then their Sports system. This review is for the F1 Race system. I`ll post a review of the Sports system when I switch in a few weeks.

The exhaust | Supersprint F1 Race Full System

The system consist of:
1. Catted Front Section
2. Resonated Center Section
3. F1 Race Rear Section

Quality
A few key points about this Supersprint exhaust:
- HJS Cats
- Made in Italy
- TUV Approved

Made in Italy and TUV Approved you can already know my first impression when I opened the boxes. The system came very well packaged, bubble wrapped and secured on the boxes. I requested the black chrome tips pipes with the Supersprint logo laser etched on the tips and they look absolutely perfect in person. Supersprint was nice enough to expedite the shipping from Italy as a courtesy.

The Supersprint front pipes are fitted with 100 CPSI HJS cats with a 95% air flow capacity. They are one of the highest flowing cats available in the market and we all know how important breathing is for the S65 engine.

Installation
The installation was as smooth as silk. Every component bolted on without any issues. Fitment was spot on, as expected, and the exhaust aligned perfectly.

Sound
Upon starting the car I already knew where this was going. The sound was very throaty and bassy when warming up. The first drive was a shock. The car goes from a throaty note from 2000-3500rpm then it switches to a raspy throaty mix from 3500-5500 and above 5500rpm it sounds as if its going to explode. It just screams!

Here is the car on the dyno:

Performance
This is where things got interesting. I was NOT expecting to make so much power. This was a very low reading dyno. We baseline'd at a low 322whp/241wtq. After the exhaust was installed, I decided to give the 8600rpm increase a try so I emailed Roman and he promptly sent me the V2 ESS catless files with 8600rpm redline. We installed the new tune and redyno the car. The results: an impressive 352whp and 262wtq for a peak gain of +30whp/+21wtq with as much as +35whp and +29wtq in the midrange.

The torque was the biggest difference, you can see about +20wtq starting as low as 3000rpm, increasing to +29whp in the midrange and tapering to +20wtq all the way to redline. You can really feel the power/torque gain throughout the entire power band, very noticeable and completely transforms the feel of the car. Here are the dyno files:

Uncorrected:

STD:

SAE:

Conclusion:

Very satisfied with the system. Supersprint is a very expensive system but well worth the money. The HJS cats are the reason why the front pipes are so expensive but if you opt for catless then the price drops significantly. Strong power gains throughout the entire powerband. The build quality is second to none as you should expect. About the sound, there is a bassy/throaty note below 1500rpm and NO drone at cruising speeds above 65mph which is perfect and the sound note is simply intoxicating, especially when down shifting.

Thanks to Matt@Supersprint USA for taking care of us promptly and Roman & AJ at ESS for always taking care of us and sending us that tune within hours. The ESS tune complements this kit so well, highly recommended.

Sounds kinda similar to my Borla setup, although higher pitched. Exhaust sounds great though!

Wow! That sound is intoxicating!

For those interested in our extensive research & development efforts for the E9X M3 and potential FBO & Supercharged long tube headers, we released our full R&D article and bonus headers shot here:
http://supersprintlabs.com/portfolio...bonus-headers/

Testing has currently begun for full bolt-on and supercharged applications. The headers below were installed on a E92 M3 race car running in the Italian championship series. We are currently working on road going variations!

I think pretty high as Carlos said. I looked it up and the connecting pipes and mufflers alone are $2800. Can anyone confirm that?

Pretty high price. If you're paying what Supersprint's website is asking then the entire system is about $7,500. The X pipe + front pipes are insanely expensive at $4,500+. Maybe a vendor could cut you a better deal, but it's no bargain either way.

Back on topic, it does sound great, Carlos. Very nice setup!

Stellar review Carlos@MORR! Your MCB E92 looks drop dead gorgeous on the dyno, haha. I would have to recommend you pick up a sexy set of MORR Wheels

For many years, I have been such a big fan and supporter of Supersprint. Rewind a handful of years, I almost purchased stupidly cheap EBay headers for my E46 M3. Bimmerpost sponsor, Evolve Automotive, really encouraged me to consider Supersprint despite the exponentially higher price tag.

When I finally made the plunge, I started to question the pricing, but upon first site of the exhaust pieces, I then realized what we pay for. My car is driven all year round, sees salt/snow for a better part of the year, yet despite the many years of having SS exhaust pieces, I have never had a problem or mishap. Unfortunately, so is not the case for my friends who have gone with some other brands.

It surprised me that Supersprint was not a popular option for the E9X M3 community, but maybe that is due to how big sponsor vendors pushed other great brands? At any rate, I would never have any doubt on getting Supersprint parts for any car! They are by far the best and my favorite when it comes to sexy squiggly pipes.

Carlos@MORR, I am looking forward to seeing your review for the Sports system!

That's a very good point. I'm not sure how come SS doesnt have the same following on this platform as they do with the E46. Quality is beyond top notch!
