BMW HP4 vs Ariel Atom vs Rallycross Citroen DS3 : the ultimate quarter mile drag race

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Which is faster? A pared-down, bare knuckle track toy, a state-of-the-art superbike or a front-running rallycross car? Steve Sutcliffe referees the match between an Ariel Atom V8, a BMW HP4 superbike and a top Citroen DS3 rallycross contender in the ultimate quarter mile showdown.

Prediction: The rally car will dominate, simply on the basis of available traction because of the wet conditions.

Damn!

SPOILER ALERT!!! (select text to show)

The HP4 pulled it out, even in the rain. I thought for sure he'd get screwed by wheelspin. Hard to beat a skinny human strapped to a motor and two wheels

was pretty sure of the outcome before, but that rally car, wish he took the restrictions off for this run. would have been nice to see a dry run too

that was the biggest waste of time ever used on a track... you cant measure the performance of any of those vehicles with those road conditions unless your intention is wet weather testing. i dont get it...

Who would win on a lap around a tight track... And on Nurburgring? Once corners are involved the Atom should win, no?

I agree. I hate races in damp conditions, especially when one car is on slick track tires, one is AWD and built for rally, and the other is a motorcycle. So much possibility for human error.

Might as well race the M5, VS E63 VS CTS-V in the rain to test traction control.

Agreed. She might not be an HP4, but the power available at my right hand on the throttle still brings a smile to my face under the helmet. She's not so bad to look at either!

Cars are faster than bikes on most tracks. The Atom is probably faster on dry pavement, but I would bet the difference with the rally car is little, if any.

Simple really....

The track (Bruntingthorpe test track/airfield) would have to have been booked months in advance along with a free slot that Liam would have had.......and sadly, as far as I know, it's still not possible to pre-book the weather in advance for any given day

The rallycross DS3 would blitz both on a tight track....

The Atom and bike would be close for top honors on a faster less twisty circuit.

Liam would be crap around the 'ring as he likes crashing there

Saw this yesterday. I knew who was gonna win even though it was wet, but it's amazing to see how close it was between the top 2.

Any decent car with a power to weight raito close to that of a bike will walk the bike on a track or even in a straight line. On the same tracks where both F1 and MotoGP race, a MotoGP bike is generally about 25 to 35 seconds a lap slower than an F1 car.

I'd take the Atom all day long, only down fall is that you wouldn't be able to show off you lady's whale-tail like you could on the bike.

I see an old Olympic Airways jet in the background. Thought they were all gone.
